VTech First Steps Baby Walker

Customer Reviews

"Entertaining, fun, sturdy and useful"

A baby walker that also doubles as a removable activity centre. What could go wrong? Well, as it happens, surprisingly little. Bizarrely we are finding out that our son loves phones and the detachable handset proved a massive hit right away. On the activity centre, which clicks easily and neatly into the front of the walker, there are two different settings. One is geared towards music, the other words. The music one in particular is superb as it features a mini five-key piano. Even the most unmusical toddler can smack the opening bars of Beethoven's Fifth from it. With spinning nobs and a handful of musical interludes this is quite a noisy toy but happily there are two settings for volume. At 1 Tom doesn't quite understand some of the harder games, such as Puppy Says but I could see how older toddlers would use this feature. The female enunciation is perfect. A little too perfect I might say, if I was in a Sci-Fi film, but as Tom comes without my cinematic baggage he loves it. The walker is solid but light enough for an experimental toddler to yank it around after first smacking it into the wall. Oddly, Tom didn't seem particularly enamoured with it at first but we left it out and recently (he's at the Herman Munster stage of assisted walking) there hasn't been a day when some part of it hasn't attracted his attention. One caveat that seems to apply to all walkers we've used: There's no mechanism for putting traction on the wheels. We've always thought this would be good for toddlers under 11 months as we've found that they can often stand and move but can't stop themselves once they get up a head of steam. Price: For £23 this is an entertaining, fun, sturdy and useful toy which, despite some punishment, looks as good today as when it first arrived.

"Fantastic Walker - 2 in 1!!"

I agree with everything the previous reviewer said. The great thing about this walker is that the board that makes all the noise and has the flashing lights unclips for use on it's own. My son loves playing with the board when he's sat on the floor. It's a really good idea to have 2 things in 1 as you get better value for money. It's also really chunky for little fingers to push. Really great product, would highly recommend!!

"Great multi purpose toy!"

This toy is super, its my Sons favourite thing to play with at the moment as you can take the board away from the walker its great for him to sit and hold. Would totally reccomend this to anyone as its lots of different tunes and learning activities all in one..unfortunately the only draw back is they get stuck in your head...."Hello Puppy calling do you want to play with me?" A brillant toy at a good price!

"My daughter loves this"

My daughter is 10 months old and has been crawling for a while now and cruising round the furniture. The first couple of weeks she just loved playing with the buttons and the different sounds. Then she figured out how to push it and now you cant stop her. Its brightly coloured and sturdy.

"Great and long lasting"

We bought this product for our first born for his first birthday to encourage him to start walking. He loved it and the electronic panel on the front kept his amused for a long time. We recently got it out after about 4 years for our youngest to have a go with it from about 9 months old and she also loved it and enjoyed being able to push it around. Again I think the panel on the front has provided her with hours of entertainment. I would definitely recommend it. Plus it is so easy to assemble. No tools needed as it all just slots together. Plus having 2 volume levels on it comes in handy at times!!!!

"Fantastic for little ones"

We bought this for our little girl when she was 7-8 months old just when she was showing an interest in moving about. It is a good quality bright and colourful walker with plenty of activities on it to keep the little one amused even when they can't walk. Four months on she is still using it everyday and has never tired of it - zooming round the room at high speed ramming everything, but she has really improved her walking and balance using this. I chose the vtech walker over its competitors due to the added weight that the activity centre on the front provides - it makes it a lot easier for the little one to use and pull herself up on without it toppling over on to her. Even after 4 months hard use and plenty of bashing it hasn't even got any marks - it really is well made. I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about a walker!

my son kian is 4 now we bought this for him when he was about 6 months old and he instantly loved it. its great how you can take the front panel off so they can play with it flat on the floor. it is very sturdy too for when they are up and about walking with it. it has lots of activities and the batteries seem to last for ages. my daughter is now 7 months and she loves it just as much. great value for money and would highly recommend to anyone

"Bought to young"

I bought the v-tech walker when my daughter was 6 months old as she could stand and cruise but found the walker dangerous as she would start to tumble backwards and as it is light it came with her and fell on her several times. She managed to push it but as light once again it ran away and she fell flat on her face. She loved the front though and played for hours with it. Ive only just recently introduced the walker to her again after putting it away as was too scared to allow her to use it as a walker. She can now walk unaided but still plays with this pushing it round and pressing the buttons there has been one accident where she pushed it into the walk and carried on walking and fell over the top of it. In my opinion and in my experiance its not heavy enough for a strong baby and can cause accidents easily, the play tray bit is fabulous but overall I wasnt very impressed with it as caused more tears than smiles in our house.

"Bright stimulating walker"

I was so pleased with this product. It kept my son amused for hours as well as being a great support when learning to walk. The activities are stimulating and the colours bright and attractive. The walker has removable legs which makes it easy to store although I have to admit that we never took legs off as it was in constant use. One of the best walkers I have come across. A big thumbs up to VTech!

"Fab walker "

We got this for our son just before he was 1 and it was great in helping him walk around! Lots of fun to be had sitting down and playing with all the toys on the front (the phone being a big hit, what child doesn't like a toy phone?!) The sounds aren't too loud like some toys which is good! My 3 year old is just as happy running around with it also. Fair price :)

"Worth every penny!"

We got my son a Vtech baby walker when he was 7 months old as he was crawling around and wanted something a little more challenging. This is definately the activity toy to have, he loves climbing up to play with the buttons and stands behind it pushing it along, with a tumble at the end as he isnt quite strong enough to walk yet. I think this is helping him learn to stand and move about on his feet (with help from Mummy). Great funky music and lots to keep baby entertained. Colourful! Great value for money, and you can easily pick one up second hand as they are timeless! Batteries seem to last quite a while too and its very easy to click together and take apart if you want to take it on holidays!

"great product"

Bought this when my little girl was about 5 months old. My mum also had one that my nephew loved and was great at entertaining him and helping him with balance. My little girl loved this and kept her busy for ages. Its really sturdy don't think I ever had a topple incident. We have taken the front activity part with us when visiting family as just clicks off and nice and compact for travel. The phone in particular is great and you will find yourself chatting to "daddy" and "grandma" which little ones find hilarious. Can be a little stiff to push on carpet and fast on wooden floor but once the child is stable and walking it seems fine.

"Brilliant worth every penny "

My little boy got this for his 1st birthday and I wish we had got it sooner! He loves it and enjoys pushing if around the house. It is helping him to become more confident with his walking. It is also great that you can take the activity board of and let them play with it on the floor!! The buttons are easy use and really colourful, it has many difference activities in one toy which is great when you are lacking space! This toy is worth every penny!!

"a must have "

I've bought these for all of my children just before their 1st birthday and it's help all four to find their feet. They are very sturdy and easy to push with lots of different words sounds and music keeping them entertained. I have had both the unisex and the girl coloured one and think they are both lovely and I have always recommended to friends. Only down side is when putting together I find myself playing with all the buttons and it's not till half a hour later I realise what I'm doing - hehe!

"He loves it.."

I bought this walker when my little boy was about 8 months old and it's been a firm favourite ever since. It's always the first thing he plays with in the morning. He usually walks across the lounge before sitting down to play with all the buttons. He loves the detachable phone and the shapes. It's great value for money and sturdy as well.
