Laura Loves…Gousto Ten to Table

Gousto Ten to Table

If you aren’t familiar with Gousto then let me introduce you – they are one of the original founders of the recipe boxes.

Recipe boxes?

Yes, the boxes that magically appear on your front door step (after the click of a few buttons) with pretty much all the ingredients and step-by-step instructions inside to make a healthy and tasty meal.

We have used Gousto a fair bit over the years – often when I fall into a bit of a food rut, or loose inspiration for something other than the same meals I often find myself cooking over and over.

The ingredients are high quality, fresh and always include flavoursome spices and the price per meal when calculated isn’t too bad.

Each week they add new recipes so it’s a real mix and match affair that constantly changes so a good reason to keep popping back.

Very recently to add to their line, they have launched a new Ten to Table range.

Ten to Table is a collection of meals that take just ten minutes to make from prep to sitting down at the table and munching away.

The target for these quick and easy meals are busy parents and people on the go that lead busy lifestyles and don’t have the luxury of time to prep fresh and nutritious meals on an evening.

I know that in the week I am so rushed, sometimes dinner is as gourmet as beans on toast!

So when I was invited to try a box I was keen to give it a go.

The first thing I noticed was that the recipe range was good, not as exhaustive as the general offerings on the website, but focused more around quick cook grains (a few rice-based dishes) but still with plenty of flavour.

Examples of the new dishes include Chilli & Garlic Prawn Spaghetti with Rocket, Mushroom Biryani with Cucumber & Coconut Raita and Chicken Fried Rice with Mange Tout, Spinach & Basil.

I had the 10-minute Peri Peri Chicken Rice.  It was a sensation of vegetables, chicken and rice mixed together with a blend of spices.

I’ll be honest and say it probably took me a little over ten minutes from the get go, the ingredients lists are comprehensive lets say, so I like to get everything laid out ready to go before I start.

However, the measurements are all pre-calculated so that means there’s no need for weighing or measuring, eliminating all the boring parts I find to meal making.

It was simple to prep, and I have always appreciated not just the instructions but also the step-by-step photos, just to keep me on track!

Siting down to eat it, I had opted to include less spice in half the meal to make it better suited for the children’s palettes.

They literally gobbled it down and asked for seconds.

My husband and I had ours later with extra spice and thought it was flavoursome, and a nice hearty meal.

There’s plenty of meat and the portion sizes are fair.

Initially I was worried that they may have simplified the menu to squeeze down the prep and cooking time, which for me takes away the fun of Gousto, but I found the range, along with the overall taste of the meals just as enjoyable and flavoursome.

They are probably more wholesome, but for a midweek evening meal that’s probably not a bad thing!

The Ten to Table recipes are available to order on www.gousto.co.uk. A recipe costs from £2.98 per portion.
