Contact with Animals During Pregnancy

When you are pregnant you should avoid certain animals and animal products.

Cats' faeces may contain a disease that could damage your baby. Be sure to take some precautions if you have a cat:

Bullet Avoid close contact with sick cats
Bullet Avoid emptying litter trays or wear disposable rubber gloves
Bullet Clean trays thoroughly every day by filling with boiling water for ten minutes
Bullet Wear gloves when gardening - even if you don't have a cat - because the soil may be contaminated with faeces.

In addition to this, avoid lambing, milking ewes and all newborn lambs when you are pregnant.
