"Roomba Revolution"

Hoovering, or vacuuming as it should really be described, has never been the chore of choice in our household. It was either greeted with complete apathy or by much huffing, puffing and kicking. Nothing seemed to summon any enthusiasm. We tried everything: bribery, coercion, the threat of withdrawn privileges; nothing, it seemed, would work.

However, we have recently experienced a complete revolution in fortune. The iRobot Roomba 530 is a small, compact yet very sophisticated little beast. It's a robotic vacuum cleaner that does everything itself. You don't have to push him around, you don't have to contort yourself into inaccessible corners, you don't have to change fittings. In fact, the long and short of it is that he does all the thinking for you. All you need to do is decide when to push his button.

Now technology has rarely been at the forefront of a teenage girl's thought processes, but in a show of techno-affection, all three of our girls sit beaming like Cheshire Cats, grinning inanely as Roomba does his bit. He twirls, then promenades, bumps into a few table legs, whirrs and whistles around the room in a routine and regimental patttern until he has completed his task.

After that he simply marches back to his home base and plugs himself back in to charge.

He comes complete with a "virtual wall", which can be placed to prevent him from wandering into places where he shouldn't be.

The only downside, if it could be classed as such is that as yet, he can't clean himself. His dust box, filter and rollers ideally need to be emptied and cleaned after each use. A small price to pay for the dramatic drop in stress levels the household has experienced in the last couple of weeks. The house has never looked so clean either!

Not a bargain basement price, I suppose, when compared to other traditional and conventional vacuum cleaners, but amazing value for money in my book!
