"Sweaty Mummy" Even before I got pregnant, I wasn't particularly fit or even keen on the idea of getting fit. I know it's not pc to admit it but (shock) I prefer couch-potatoing on the sofa. However there's been no sign of my wobbly baby-tummy firming up even though the weight's sort of gradually going now that Amie's 5 months old.
When I got The Yummy Mummy Workout DVD from thebabywebsite, to say I was apprehensive, was a gross understatement but I had volunteered after all so I had to give it a go! It said on the blurb that the dvd had 'fun and effective ways for all mums-to-be to maintain their fitness throughout their pregnancy'.
Eh? I thought Yummy Mummy was for after-the-birth! And it is - it's really good as there are two DVDs in the pack - one for pregnancy and one for the aftermath! So it was Disc Two for me then. Though I did play the one aimed at the preggie amongst us and I have to say, it's brilliant. If I'd been pregnant, I honestly wouldn't have minded doing the work-out, In fact, I'd have really enjoyed it. It's not one of these over-jolly, patronising workout dvds and neither is it an unrealistic one.
So, to the workout. At the end of the first session I was knackered and sweating like a wet sponge! Mind you, I don't think I was supposed to do that many exercises in one go so quickly. But honestly, it was all quite good fun and if my weary body had been up to it I'd have carried on for longer! The funky fat burn, though hilarious when I first got started, really made me feel as though I had done something and it kept a smile on my face throughout. If anyone had mentioned yoga to me before this, I would have simply dismissed the suggestion. My visions of tying my legs and arms in knots behind my back were a bit exaggerated. The exercises are easy, relaxing and really do stretch you without hurting. You feel quite relaxed after it all.
I don't know yet if the circulation, pelvic floor strength and all the other claims on the box are true, but I do know that I already feel better and a little fitter, so it must be doing something.
Maybe this is what I've needed for a long time and it finally took motherhood to persuade me to get off my bum and do something. For any of you other couch-potato Mums who think that enjoyable and fun exercise is a figment of the imagination, think again. I was surprised and I really enjoyed it. I'm sure I'll be getting a bit more mileage out of the DVD yet! Member review by Becca - Becca Edwardes, Colchester... Mummy (soon-to-be Yummy) to gorgeous nearly 6 months Amie
