"poor"

When this arrived i thought it looked really nice. It comes in a lovely presentation box. Me and Keane, age 4, were both really excitied to have a go!
I read the story to Keane and showed him how to tie the laces on each page. We did this a couple of times but he just could not get the hang of tying the laces, however, even i found it really fiddly because its impossible to hold the book steady whilst tying the laces! Keane got bored of this after a while and has shown no interest in the book at all since!
Aside from this i also didn't think much of the quality of the book, i think the thin layer of card over each page will soon become tatty and fall off, and mine was all ragged round the edges where it had been cut too.
I don't know how much this book would cost to buy because the only price i can fine on the box is in dollars.

"dissapointed"

when we first recieved the book corey and i were really excited, the book looked fab and was in a lovely presentation box but we quickly became dissapointed.

its suppose to teach kids how to tie their laces but no where in the book did it actually do this is was just a story about some animals who couldnt tie there laces. Corey and i both ound it difficult to tie the laces.

corey lost interest straight away i think hes a bit young really i would say this would be ok for a child of 5.

"good idea"

My son Cole is now 6 and cannot tie his shoe laces so I thought this would be great for him.

The book is a nice and chunky board book in the shape of a boot with laces on each page. It came in a presentation box which had instructions and a certificate for the child.

I gave the book to cole and showed him the instuctions inside the box.

He liked the book, read the story to himself and had a go at tying the laces but couldnt master it by himself. He said the pictures were confusing him.

So he hasn't learnt how to tie his shoes yet.

I think it's a great idea, maybe the story could include the instuctions for lace tying too - that way Cole might have got the idea.

"Good concept engagingly presented..."

The "Zoo's Shoes" is cut into the shape of a shoe and each page is laced with a brightly coloured shoe lace. The book arrived in an open presentation box, the box sat within the lid and then slid into a clear plastic sleeve so you can see the book without opening it... It looked good and the children were eager to get it out to read. They slid the cover off, took hold of the book and quickly discarded the box... I tell you all this also because the box is actually more significant than just presentation!!

The book had great images, bright colours and simple rhyming text, however the print was very small which meant my daughter Izzy (age 5) struggled to read it without help. The story was good at encouraging Izzy to want to tie the laces but it appeared to be missing a vital element - actually showing her how to do it?! However through me showing her using the book she was able to practise and learn in a fun way.

After initial demonstration and reading the book together Isabelle spent over an hour yesterday tying and untying the laces until she was happy that they were perfect everytime; it wasn't until she went to bed that I got chance to look at the book again... And as I put it back in the box realised that on the inside of the lid there were instructions on the bunny method for tying shoes! In the box there is also a certificate to congratulate the child on successfully learning to tie their laces which is a nice addition.

Joshua who has just turned 3 was interested in the story but became frustrated that he couldn't manage to tie the laces and lost interest - I would suggest he was slightly to young for the book at this stage.

This morning Izzy quickly found the book and tried again to check that she could still remember how to tie the laces, she didn't want to read the story again though as she said it was too hard because the writing was too small. This surprised me as she normally enjoys reading. She has however enjoyed showing everyone who's visited that she can now tie bows though!

In reflection I would suggest that the book was great in helping her to learn how to tie her shoes, however I cant see this being a book that she wants to read time and time again. Also it would have been better if the instructions were also in the book... being on the lid does mean the child can use them as a prompt no matter which page they are on but as we didn't know they were actually there it caused confusion!! Also I can imagine in my house that the box & book wouldn't stay together for that long!!
