"Good old family film!" Based loosely on Hans Christian Andersen's tale of The Ugly Duckling, this film attempts to bring the story into the 21st century with the computer animation, although I have to admit it's not quite up to Pixar standards!!
Ratso is a wheeler-dealer rat who wants to break into showbusiness as the agent of a performing worm! He flees the city to escape his dumped fiancee Phyllis and her brothers. Ratso ends up in a duck yard, in possession of an egg, which he claims to be his. The ducks and chickens aren't convinced until the egg hatches and they see how ugly the baby is! Miond you my 12 year old disagreed and claimed he was cute!!
Ratso has to take charge of the hatchling, if he wants to survive the Duck yard. He adopts the public persona of a doting parent whilst privately digging an escape tunnel. Phyllis and her brothers catch up with Ratso just as he realizes that the duckling has a talent for making others laugh. Ratso takes Ugly (the duckling) to the carnival where he is to perform. Only when he is on stage with everyone laughing does Ugly realise the truth.
Does it all end happily ever after? You'll have to wait and see, but hey this is a fairy tale, so what else do you expect!!
I felt it was a traditional feel good family movie all of my lot, from 20 months to 12 years) sat through it quite happily, well Jaidyn(20 months) did get upset when Ugly started to cry on stage, bless her!! A good modern version of a classic.

"great fun for the whole family!" We invited friends round and settled down to watch 'The Ugly Duckling and Me'
In the room were 2 mums, an 8yr old, 7yr old, 6yr old, 5yr old, 4yr old and 21mth old. Full house!!
The film is about a rat called 'Ratso' who starts off as a manager to 'the worlds longest worm' in a sideshow. They get laughed off stage and the worm leaves Ratso.
The film goes on and Ratso finds an egg and out hatches an Ugly Duckling. Ratso uses him to start with but he begins to have feelings for him and the Ugly Duckling sees Ratso as his dad.
They go to find the circus with various things happening along the way.
The Ugly Duckling turns into a typical teenager - the KEVIN type - and later on in the film he falls in love.
It all ends with 'Ugly' turning into a swan - but does he leave Ratso behind? you will have to watch to find out!
The film started and popcorn and sweets were disappearing but all eyes were on the tv set!
Charlie (21mths) did get bored - but he gets bored watching anything as he doesnt understand the story. But there were bits of the film that he was glued too.
Cole and Ryan (4yr & 5yr) watched 30mins before dissapearing to another room - but the 2nd time the film was shown Cole watched from beginning to end.
Meghan, Elise and Kira watched the entire film, they really enjoyed it and Meghan watched the extra's that were on the dvd straight after the film finished.
The 2 mums enjoyed the film too - there are a few quirky bits for the adult in there.
I have recommended this film to other mums. Member review by victoria - mum of 3
