"A Wonderful Idea" A chance to learn more about pregnancy, labour and baby care, plus a little time for pampering on a luxury weekend break
It seems you have to be some sort of Wonder Woman these days when pregnant, to find time to learn all you need to know about pregnancy, labour, coping with a new born and attempting to get your figure back to a shape that doesn’t resemble some form of inflatable. As for squeezing in time for a little pampering – pah!
That is why I jumped at the chance of trying out a special ‘Baby Mooning’ event in London run by two charming Scots who formed ‘The Baby Gurus’. A one-day trial event in London’s Sanctuary Spa, Covent Garden gave future mums a taster of what to expect on these carefully choreographed weekend breaks which aim to leave mums feeling informed, inspired and relaxed prior to the arrival of their little bundles of joy.
Starting the day by swapping your daywear for a big white fluffy robe is always a treat in my eyes, you quickly feel the tension leave your shoulders, aided by the nearby scents of essential oils. The day kicked off with a briefing from the Baby Gurus themselves. Sonya Murray, Director and independent midwife and antenatal teacher, alongside Emma Thomson, a qualified antenatal teacher with experience in all aspects of pregnancy, childbirth and early planning.
Talks were provided on birth plans, details on the three stages of labour, methods of pain relief, tips on breast feeding and the much needed baby sleep management; all of which were personal and informative, especially when taught in such a relaxed manner and a wonderful environment.
Following a delicious lunch clearly perfected for pregnant paletes, a light aqua-aerobics sessions got us back in the mood for a little more education and then an afternoon packed with pampering. Of course this was just a one-day taster session, so on a short break away a more leisurely pace would be ensued, providing more time out to mix with other mums and swap questions and tips and no doubt compare stretch marks, aches and pains!
The weekends take place all over the country but we received information on a forthcoming weekend planned in the stunning surroundings of Gleneagles, in the heart of Scotland. A great setting for both mother and father; while mum-to-be learns more on pelvic floor exercises, dads-to-be can be rewarded on their dedication for learning more about labour by a top class round of golf. I know my husband would certainly benefit from tips on how to apply a newborn’s nappy with ease and sophistication.
Of course Gleneagles is famous for great service, a stunning spa, food to die for and its stunning setting – a perfect environment for new parents to relax and enjoy a little time together before all the fun starts!!!
Taking time out of a busy life is so difficult for most of us, a planned weekend away which provides such essential information and expertise is a wonderful idea, that I thoroughly recommend. Prices start from £500 per person for a two-day break. Member review by rebecca - Mum-to-be
