"Nice illustrations"
I was some what surprised (pardon the pun) when I recieved the book as going by the title I was expecting a book with all the ribbons, bells and whistles and was slightly disappointed in what I actually recieved. It is a hardback book which is always nice and the illustrations are classical in nature and lovely to look at however, the story is a little hard going and completely went over the heads of my 3 year old and 20 month old. They did enjoy looking at the pictures and pointing out the animals. It definitely has not joined the list as one of their favourites and does not venture off the book shelves that often.

"Wouldn't call it a classic"
After reading the book once to my daughter, she has not shown any interest in reading again, which I don't blame her. The book is not bad, but Its forgettable. The title Surprise Surprise! Sets you up for a big climatic ending, (in a childlike sense), but the end fails to do the title justice. The various animal characters are a good idea, and the pages where they express their choice of games/activity is informative, but I find the book doesn't deliver fully. The actual surprise is unexpected, but let's the book down. Although a good idea and concept, in my opinion, the 'surprise' could have been better.
