"A nice gift for winter babies"

This product would be a great alternative gift for a friend/family member who gives birth in winter.
It is great for warming the moses baskets without the worry of a hot water bottle leaking. I found I didn't use it in the car. It was also good for longer walks on the local common. I didn't need to worry about the baby getting cold and could ensure she got lots of fresh air when so many days are spent inside during the colder months.

However, it is too hot for direct contact with a baby and a blanket for the pram is essential.

I personally probably wouldn't have bought this myself but to be given as a gift would be great. The price tag of 30 Euros is a little dear when you consider everything else you need to buy.

My wife was however a little put off by the smell of it a first.

"Great for winter baby "

I found this product very easy to use- you just microwave it and place it where you want to warm up, although sometimes i found i had to use a blanket to prevent it geting too hot.

The product does what its meant to although i found that i only used it for the pram a few times as there wasnt always time or i was using the car seat first. However i did use it a number of times for my babys moses basket as it is winter and the sheet was cold when i went to put him in. I found this very useful as the cold did not shock or wake him up when i put him down.

I would not say it was great value for money as having a baby can be an expensive time and this is not an item you must have for your baby. I only used the product twenty or so times so i cannot comment on how long it would last but each time i used it it was as good as the first.

The appearance is very pleasing for babies and children as it is colourful and catches thier eye but as this was under him or out when he was put in his pram/ moses basket this was not really an issue.

I found that overall i liked the product but not enough to pay the retail asking price and thought that if i had a summer baby this would be a product i would not consider buying as i would have no need for it, but if you have a winter baby this would be a product to consider- or as my friend suggested use a hot water bottle but then you would have the inconvienience of having to boil the kettle and having boiling hot water near your child.

"A nice gift.....little concerned about the current retail price."

WHAT IS IT?

The Snug A Rug pram warmer seems to be the newest product from the Snug A Rug range which is based in Finland. It's basically a wheatgerm filled, microwaveable, hot water bottle replacement.

WHAT DOES IT OFFER?

These products in the UK are not new to the marketplace. Indeed similar offerings can be obtained at most gift stores, garden centres and pharmacies. The products real unique selling proposition seems to be the concertina product design which enables the cushion to mould to the shape of your pram, pushchair, car seat or whatever else you may wish to warm with it. The cushion is made of all natural elements and comes in a range of bright fabric designs.

WHAT DO I DO WITH IT?

The product easily does what it says in that you pop it in the microwave and it warms quickly and efficiently. (I have only heated the product 15 times and therefore cannot comment on how effective it may be after 500 uses.) You place the cushion beneath a mattress in your pram or stroller (or perhaps some thick blankets I imagine depending on how hot you make the cushion) and it keeps baby warm.

You can use this product in other ways just as you would a hot water bottle. For instance I popped it into the car seat one morning to warm the seat in the cold car, I placed it into his cot (minus baby) to warm the mattress and covers on cold nights before popping him in there. We also used it when my partner had a stiff neck to ease the aches and pains. So, it is quite a nice product to have in and around the home....even just for your own comfort.

IS IT EASY TO USE?

Heating to your preferred temperature based upon your microwave levels takes a bit or trial and error but is fairly simple. Actually putting the cushion into a pram or pushchair isn't difficult as long as your design of system has a mattress or thick, removable base to put the cushion under as for safety it should not rest by baby's skin.

WHO SHOULD BUY ONE?

As a pram warmer, I believe the cushion may benefit most those people who walk or use public transport as their main means of getting out and about. I personally use a car and although the product does stay warm for short or medium journeys (up to one hour - not tested after one hour period), Henry is rarely pushed out in cold weather for any period of time.

Therefore I would say the products key usage would be if you are assembling your buggy at home ready for a long walk or day out in cold weather.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

It is important to note that the company have not provided a UK RRP with their sample. The rating of Value For Money has come from the company's European website which retails this product direct at 30 Euros. According to XE Currency Converter as of 10/11/2009 this would be just under £27.

I believe that when comparing to the current offerings on the market price would be unrealistic and that a retail value of between £12 - £15 would attract what I can foresee being an ideal target market of gift buyers and frequent buggy users.

TO SUM UP

A lovely gift for a winter baby..... but maybe not an essential item to car users or for within the temperate UK climate.
