"it seemed awesome on paper..."
we had this lovely bear added to our baby list and my best bud and her beau bought this as a prezzie for bump (aka Nathan) and we were all excited at the prospect of a toy that would double as a comforter and would play lullabys etc...
what i've since learned is that if it sounds too good to be true, it typically is...
the velcro fastening wasn't strong enough to hold the sound bit away from the baby once the bear was being used and Nathan fretted whenever the bear was switched on (the silkie 'lived' somewhere in his cot...lol)
at 21 months, i've removed the sound bit and the bear now has pride of place on his beadhead...
i always liked the texture of the bear and i slept with in when we were co-sleeping..so maybe it's meant for exhausted mummies? lol

"Didn't work for us"
We tried to use this for a while but had to give up the end as it made matters worse. The noises weren't very soothing, and a little bit crackly, so couldn't put anyone to sleep. The bear made a noise if it was touched accidently in the night, but didn't make a sound when the baby cried (which was the whole point of it I think). A number of times the bear started making noises at the slightest of touches and woke the baby up screaming.

It looks very cute, and fits onto the side of the cot lovely, but it didn't actually help the baby sleep at all. She wasn't a new born when we started using it, was probably about 4 months, so maybe this was the reason she didn't take to the actual noise.

"Looks cute, no slumber though!"
My first impression of the slumber bear was that it looked really cute and seemed like a really good product. The bear takes 4xAAA batteries (not included)and I recommend you but good quality batteries or they wont last long. Chloe was about 5 months when I started using the bear, so I didn't put it in her cot (babies should not sleep with soft toys) but I attached the bear to the out side of the cot using his velcro paws. You can take the sound box out and attach that to the cot, pram or bouncy chair if you wish. the bear also comes with a silkie which you can pop under your t-shirt to pick up your scent then place it in the cot. The silkie didn't have any affect on Chloe she really wasn't interested, I think its because she already had another type of silkie that she was used to. The sound box has a recording of actual womb sounds, a lullaby feature, nature sounds (ocean waves, rain, whale noises)white noise and a feature so you can record your own sounds (20 seconds long). The sound box will activate when baby cries or moves the bear. The sound box also has a volume control. First I tried Chloe with the womb sound and she became very quiet and mellow although she did not actually go to sleep. That was also the only time the bear really had any affect on her as well! Ive been trying out the different sounds (2 weeks with each) and she really isn't interested. I also find she has to really cry very loud for the bear to active (usually shes in too much of a state by then) but the smallest knock on the cot will set the bear off. I actually found the sounds very calming and I'm sure that the bear would work very well if you used the bear on a new born baby. I do think that a remote control would be very useful so you could activate the bear yourself. Overall a very high quality made product but more suited for a new born.

"Not much slumber"
We tried for ages with the Slumber Bear but it unfortunately only seemed to make our daughter worse when she woke in the night. Her cry would have to get quite loud before the bear activated itself, and by that time the sounds weren't enough to get her back to sleep. A remote control would be an excellent addition as the parent could activate the Bear before such times (without getting out of bed!). If she accidentally touched the bear in the night it would wake her with a start and not soothe her; so after a while we put the volume down quite low, but doing this made the nature and womb sounds very crackly and not audible. The lullaby mode is good but I think the actual sound could be improved to be softer. The recordable mode is an excellent idea.
We didn't start using the Slumber Bear until our daughter was 4+ months so maybe this was partly the reason for it being ineffective, perhaps had we used it from birth we would have had more success. I will add that now we have taken the sound box out our daughter does play with the bear and it is a sweet looking attachment to her cot. She also likes to cuddle up with the Silkie and we play peek-a-boo with it in the mornings!
