"great stage 1 wax pen"
my son kai who is 2 and half years old was sent a stage 1 wax pen to test. this is the first wax pen he has ever used and he loves it. he has had hours of fun drawing pictures with this pen and can`t wait to use it. he calls it his giant pen. great value for money the pen came with red wax and blue wax refills . the pen is £5.20 to buy good value for money . the pen was very easy to use and helps teach my son how to hold the pen the right way. all in all a wax pen that i would buy for my son.

"interesting concept"
We recieved the stage 3 ink pen for my children to test,(9 years and 13 years) first impressions were that is was a bit on the chunky side compared to the 'normal' pens that they are used to using, but were quite funky and the interchangable 'disc' in the handle end was a novel idea.
The pen came with 2 blue ink cartridges which were quite easy to fit once i figured out how to do it in the first place, there were no instructions at all, and it took me a wee while to figure out that i had to remove the nib cover before putting in the holder !
the pen itself was easy to hold, although my kids did point out that the finger grips could have been softer, more rubbery. The ink was a pleasing shade of blue, and dried very quickly without smudging, so a big thumbs up for that :) the ink also isnt water soluble so wouldnt run if it got wet which is another big plus point.
overall both children were very impressed with it and are convinced it has made their handwriting neater, i would like the opportunity to try out the next stage again for my eldest as i think the stage 3 was better suited to my 9 year old.
I also gave the pen to a friend of mine to try out, he is a 'fleet street' trained proffessional cartoonist and has great difficulty finding 'nice' pens to use, well he was so impressed with this one that he wants me to get some for him if they are available with black ink !! He tells me that the nib has a lovely fluctuating flow ... meaning that the thickness of the line varies depending on the pressure applied, and the fact it is non water soluble would mean that he could paint over his sketches with watercolour, overall his verdict was 'much too good for a kids pen'
i have not given a rating for value for money as i am unaware of the price.

"Interesting Idea"
We were sent the wax pen for my two oldest children to try, they are Adam aged 4 and Eleanor aged 2.
The wax pen were received was as blue plastic holder with three wax 'leads' in black, blue and red. The plastic holder has three finger places to teach the child the correct way of holding a pen, and it currently costs GBP 5.20. There are a number of colour holders available as well as the wax refils
The day we received the pen was the same day that Adam received his latest Traffic Club magazine and he sat down and followed the dots as having his own pen made him feel very grown up.
He found it very comfortable to use, but as the finger grips are adult size, he did have a tendancy to put more than one finger on each one, so it is a shame that the fingue grips weren't child size to prevent this happening.
Over the weekend we all went to a family party where three of the ladies there were primary teachers, they all like the pen and throught that while seemed expensive for what it was it would be a useful aid in teaching writing.
One of them made the most important point, which was as long as children find it comfortable to use and enjoy using it that is half the battle.
I would love to tell you what my 2 year old thinks of it as well, but Adam likes it so much he has taken to hiding it from his sister.

"The Graffix pencil"
My 6 year old son and I tried out the Graffix pencil and he found it interesting. Prefers it to his ordinary one because it has these ergonomic grooves for your fingers. I prefer it also as it did not add too much pressure on my fingers as I tend to tense up when writing , obviously I add too much pressure when I write and from very little always got calluses from writing. Although the pencil is a bit on the chunky size you don't have to worry about it slipping like you would the grips that you add on to the pencils. It has a nice little motif which can be changed, not sure what purpose it serves as I can see little ones putting it in their mouths, so its probably just a fashion thing. Don't know how much they cost, but if is reasonably priced this could be a good investment for less calloused fingers.

"homework "buddy""
I received the Pelikan Griffix Stage 2 pencil (left handed grip) for my son, aged 4 years old to test.
My son has just started reception and we have always had difficulty with him getting to grips with "mark making" and practising to write. I found it very difficult to find some writing pencil which had a chunky grip and yet fun for a little boy to use. Thus, was very glad to be picked to test and review this product.
The day the pencil arrived coincided with the 1st piece of homwework which my son had been given. So, we were both excited with the pencil and at first he just gazed at the pencil making me change the funky little chips and then gradually showing him how to use it.
My son was eager to finish all the homework that day which meant the pencil was definitely a "hit" and also he loved the way he could grip it nicely in his left hand and control his writing.
The pencil came with 2 refills and a space to pop a name label on the pencil (label included)adding to the fact that you can personalise the pencil with the chips and labels to your child's liking.
Funnily enough my son managed to dismantle the pencil( as many little boys do) and i was amazed that i managed to "fix" it , indicating that the quality of this pencil is very good and simple.
Personally, i cannot see any bad points with this pencil and am encouraged to buy something similar and suitable for my daughter as she felt a bit left out. It is great that the Pelikan Griffix Stage pens/pencils offer something for every child at the stage they are at and also the fact that with the pencil you dont have to fuss with a pencil sharpener, one of my pet hates.
Overall, i am definitely going to buy extra refills for this stylish and sturdy pencil and also buying a pen fo my daughter. The retail price for the Pelikan Griffix Stage 2 Pencil at the moment is 5.99 including three refills which i guess is fair enough. It would have been a even more functional pencil if it had an added eraser , but collectively it is a great 1st pencil for reception children with the added left or right handed feature, something many other pencils do not have.
