"Interesting, Educational - Just Perfect" Oxbridge Baby - 'Learn to Talk'
We have used Baby Einstein with our son since he was old enough to tell the difference between Bach and Mozart and so we had quite high expectations when the Oxbridge Baby 'Learn to Talk' dvd came through the post. We weren't disappointed though as although Oxbridge Baby uses some of the same techniques as Baby Einstein it does take a considerable step forward in the use of gestures and facial expressions. Where Baby Einstein fascinates your children the Oxbridge Baby dvd teaches. Even after the first viewing Tom was repeating certain phrases and it acts as a good reminder for those toddlers who started up signing but who have neglected this as their speaking skills have burgeoned. The tutorial for parents was especially helpful and the length of the dvd is perfect now that Tom has given up his afternoon nap and has a natural lull mid-afternoon. It's an interesting, educational programme that is perfect for 2 year olds just finding their way in the world and fascinated by almost every word they hear.
Oxbridge Baby - 'Classical Music'
The Oxbridge Baby Classical Music cd is a nice addition to a toddler's cd collection and is a useful introduction to classical music in general. The length of the cd is perfect for bedtime and there is an impressive range on show. Owning a large collection ourselves however - and one introduced to Tom from very early on - I must admit that it is a little redundant. Also some of the arrangements cater a little too much to what is seen as 'traditional' kids music, ie tinkly; many of the pieces have been lightened to a degree that eventually irritates and which actually distracts from music that is naturally calming in any case. For any house that has not yet discovered that a gentle background of classical music can help to soothe babies and toddlers then this is a good place to start, but there are so many competitive compilations out there that it's difficult to see this dominating the market.
