"WOW I LOVE IT"

To say i was a little excited when this baby monitor arrived is an understatement. But i am no use at assembing things so i was a little worried, but i had no need to be, the instructions are very easy to follow, there are pictures to follow too. There is not alot to put together either which was good, took me about 2 minutes to complete.

The battery compartment is easy to open, just a simple push and gain access, no screws or screwdrivers to fiddle with.

The parents unit can be plugged into the mains or you can use the battery to walkabout with it, a battery is suppied, its like a mobile phone one.

The childs unit can be placed on a surface in the bedroom or can be mounted on the wall. The angle can easily be adjusted to where you want it.

Once i had it all put together i plugged it in to see what the picture quality is like, i was very impressed, its very clear and during the day its in colour, once it gets darker the screen automatically turns to night mode, black and white, still very clear.

From the parents unit you can turn on a night light on the childs unit or play some music, both are lovely features.

There are 3 modes to choose from on the parents unit, 1) auto mute off, video and sound is continually played, 2) automute on, video is continuously played but the speakers turn off until the child makes a noise, 3)vox mode, video and sound are both off until the child makes a noise, this one is great for when you are in bed, the unit can sometimes buzz a little so this mode allows you to get a good sleep without feedback from the unit but you are also alerted to your child making noise.

All in all this is a very good baby monitor, i liked how it gives the parent choices and you can do things to soothe your child without going in the room by using the light and music.

Very easy to use another great item from Lindam.

"great all round product, just needs something extra"

Functionality,
Very easy to use, plug in, turn on and your done, positioning the camera was very easy, im very impressed that i can point it anyway i wish and its always perfect!
The music is simple to turn on.

Practicality.
for us this is fantastic, we visit family alot so have to take a monitor with us, and both children rely on music to sleep, and a night light, now we only need one thing and we can see what jacks upto in someone elses house.

Value for money.
Having now tried it out, i would definitely buy it, the picture is so clear, no interference and its just so easy to use. the lullabys are lovely!

Appearance.
It looks very posh, but the buttons on the parent unit would be nicer more streamline, they seem 'clunky'.

Do you(or baby/child) like it?
I love it, its just fantastic and does everything we need to travel alot, the children love the night light and the music too!

Does it have any negatives?
Occasionally it hums a little, but not when its on charge. Id prefer a smaller handset but keep the screen that size.

"Good value for money"

I have used another video monitor in the past which has been big and bulky, and very basic. The Lindam monitor is not! It is sleek and of great design, very attractive and well packaged.

The monitor was easy to set up and the instructions easy to follow.

The monitors picture is excellent, very clear wherever I take it around the house. The sound quality is not as great. There is a slight buzzing noise which comes from the monitor at times, although not all the time.

My daughter needs soft music when taking her daytime naps, which the monitor provides. This is a great function as it means I can switch the music on from outside the room.

Overall, this monitor is a great piece of equipment, the only gripe I have is the interference in the sound at times.

I would definitely recommend it to others.

"Easy to use, compact and good quality"

The Lindam video baby monitor It is very easy to use. It's a case of get it out of the box, plug in and go. There is no real need to read the instructions it is that simple.

The base unit with the monitor is very light and portable, and gives a good picture in daylight, and the night picture is acceptable using IR. The camera portion of the setup is a little tricky to position if it needs to be placed high enough to be able to see in to a cot. The base for the camera has no way of attaching to a cot with the standard supplied base. The solution provided is to wall mount the camera with a screw attached to the provided base. However the screw fixing in the bottom of the lens housing is compatible with standard camera tripod mounts, so I was able to use a camera "octopus tripod" which worked really well and I would recommend for attaching to a cot.

Some additions to functionality that some competitors have such as a talk back function and a temperature gauge are omitted, which are two features I would have liked to see. I tested the range up to 40m and through a house wall, and there was no loss in signal or picture.

Whether the extra benefit of a video monitor over an audio only monitor is personal preference, but what I found personally is without a video monitor I was not worried about movement in the baby's cot. With video it tends to instil concern when there is no movement/ lots of movement, so personally I think I prefer an audio only monitor. However they do say a picture tells a thousand words!

At the RRP it is competitively priced as where is lacks a few features, the portability and ease of use makes up for this. I have seen it online for somewhere in the region of £40 less than the RRP and at this price it is a very good buy.

It is not all good however as there is one flaw mentioned in other reviews. In it's normal setting which is video monitoring, there is a background hum, which is bad enough to make you think the unit is faulty enough to return it to the shop. There are two features so that this hum does not drive you totally mad. One is automute, where the audio output on the monitor is muted until there is a noise in the room, and the other is "vox" which cuts both video and audio unless there is a noise in the room. You have to use these two features to cut out this background hum otherwise it is unusable. You would use one of these two modes in normal operation anyway as you don't need to hear every little noise, so it should not put you off considering it as a purchase if you are in the market for a video baby monitor

If I was to give the product a mark out of 10 it would be a 6. If the hum could be fixed it would be an 8.

"great monitor"

i found this monitor easy to use it was easy to set up and the instructions were clear. the only thing i found was i couldn't always get the right position to put the monitor in as it didn't move as much as i needed it too
its great that in daytime its a colour picture and at night its black and white we got many laughs watching what my 19 month old son done in his cot.
my only problem was the feedback when using it it was fine on silent but when you had the sound on just slightly it was an annoying whine.
i also liked the fact that you could play lullabys that are presinstalled constantly where as before we were constantly up and down the stairs putting ds's teddy on.
it would be good to have a way of talking through the monitor to the child also.
but overall this is value for money and would be a good purchase for someone who wants to be able to keep an eye on their child at bedtime

"Total turnaround - now I'd never turn back...."

I had always been sceptical about baby monitors with a camera function, I have been looking for a new monitor for some time and to be honest never considered one with a camera to be an option, mainly on cost but also on the question of how good the quality of the picture would be and whether it would be of any use!

The Lindam monitor is packaged well and attractively, all the functionality is displayed cleared on the box and after using the device I can confirm that these functions have not been exaggerated as can sometimes be the case....it does exactly what is says on the box!

In the box you receive two power supplies, the camera unit, camera stand, base unit and battery (which I noticed is the same as an old Nokia phone battery, good way to get spare batteries if you need to use it for a prolonged time without charging!).

The base unit was easy to put together, just slip the battery in, like a mobile phone and charge for a minimum 6 hours. The camera unit was fairly simple too, attach it the base and point it at the subject (in my case Eliána's cot with one of Isabelle’s dolls in!).

The one thing I did struggle with (and am still struggling with a little bit) was getting the camera angle correct. I wanted to stand the camera on a window sill near the cot, due to the way that the camera pivots it was not easy to get it right and the really frustrating thing was that due to the weight of the power cable, once I did have it right it kept being pulled out of position. I eventually got over this by tightening the fixing really tight, tighter than I felt comfortable with to be honest, it was pretty close to breaking point.

It would be very straight forward if you were to mount the camera on the wall and to be fair I think this is the main idea behind the design and the fact that people may not want it to be mounted on a wall may have been a bit of an afterthought.

The monitor was very easy to connect, basically plug it in, turn the base unit on and go, connection was instant. During the day (or when light is sufficient) the picture is in colour, when it is dark the picture is black and white. Both pictures are surprisingly clear, and the feed is instant, I did feel that the screen is a little small; however, if you had a bigger screen the battery wouldn’t last as long as the resolution of the picture would be affected.

When there is noise in the room the sound quality is good, very clear, unfortunately when the children are asleep and silent there is a humming on the base unit when in camera mode which can be annoying. I have checked the instructions and there is nothing that will eliminate the noise. Fortunately the base unit has 3 modes, Normal Camera mode, Automute and Vox.

Normal Camera is as you would expect, camera and sound on, Automute has the camera on so you can see any movements but mutes the speaker until there is a noise in the room (eliminating the humming!) and Vox disables the camera and sound until there is a noise in the room at which time the camera and sound leap to life, this is the function I have used the most with the older kids, firstly there is no humming and secondly the battery lasts longer, with Eliána (8 weeks) I have stuck to Automute so we can see any movements. It is very easy to switch between modes by pressing a button on the side of the base unit so you can engage the camera at any time if you want to check up on them!

The battery life on the base unit is good (the camera has no battery, it is always plugged in), pretty much as described, 6 hours in full camera mode, in Vox mode I am getting about three nights out of it, with it being on without being plugged in for at least 4 hours per night.

There is a function to play music from the camera unit and to have a nightlight, this has helped to settle Eliána but just wakes the older kids up as they are just ‘polyphonic’ nursery rhymes. The other thing is that when using in Automute or Vox modes the sound is activated on the base unit by the music.....Match of the Day with Baa Baa Black Sheep....not good!

There is one other fatal flaw (for us at least) and that is that when the base unit is switched on and connected to the camera (no matter what mode it is in use) it interferes/blocks our wireless internet connection, it is definitely this as we have tested it thoroughly, switch the base unit on while Liz is online, the connection dies, switch it off again the connection comes back up! Obviously I do not know if this is the case with all wireless routers, we have a new BT Home hub (the black one)...if you have one of these and use it wirelessly, you’ll need to think carefully about the position of one of these monitors!

Conclusion.....the Camera is a really nice reassurance to have (especially for Lizi as she is definitely more comfortable putting Eliána to bed upstairs on her own now she can still watch her from a distance!) and the VOX mode is great, increasing battery life, and it somehow manages to ignore the background noise of bedtime TV which we used to have to listen to. I feel however that this monitor misses being able to talk back from the base unit to the baby, walkie talkie style, which is something we used a lot on our other monitor with the older children. This said I won’t be going back to our old one! Despite the few flaws I’ve mentioned it is overall very very good...
