"Good Home Cooking Recipes "

I really enjoyed using this cookery book. I found it easy to follow and it had a good selection of recipes, some good old fashioned ones too! My only comment would be that it would have been nice to have a few more photos.

"300 recipes to try"

Diana Peacock created this book based on family recipes, she is a Mum of 3 who enjoys cooking. It is an honest book which teaches you to cook healthy tasty dishes on a budget. If you prefer Heston Blumenthal's style, then this is not a book for you, there are no exotic or fancy recipes. This book is all about home cooking on a budget, enabling you to make basic foods in the easiest way. It might be a perfect gift for a student or any child who leaves home and starts their independent life. The book is divided into 16 chapters: Making your own dairy products, making stock, soups etc
But by saying "basic" and "budget" I don't mean an experienced cook should put it aside. I consider myself a good cook, pretty adventurous and creative when it comes to cooking, but I enjoyed reading this book, and it certainly inspired me to go back to some basics. It reminded me of my childhood and grandma who lived in a remote God-forsaken village in Russia - she used to make her own cottage cheese, sour cream and many other tasty dairy products. Nothing can compare to the taste of the freshly made cottage cheese, and I will definitely have a go at the first opportunity.
Oat crunchy cookies were very easy to make, and were very crunchy indeed. I also liked the confession of the author that while developing recipes she had made some terrible mistakes along the way (don't we all occasionally?!), but she learned by them.
The main message of the book is Don't be afraid of trying and have a go at a recipe. It might not be a success the first time, but the more you make your own food, the more you appreciate the taste of the home-made food and the less you rely on shop-bought meals.
My only grudge is the price of the book - for being a paperback without colour illustrations it is quite pricey at £12.99.
Enjoy reading and cooking!
