"i can bake...!!!"

my husband laughed loudly when i told him what i was getting this. very loudly. his eyes were streaming he was so rocked by the hilarity of this test choice. you see, i'm considered a danger to myself and others when i'm in the kitchen. yes, i've burn boiled eggs but i was determined to make him take back all his jibes about testing the fire extinguisher in the kitchen! this was going to be sweet revenge - literally!

when the book arrived, i was gripped by a fear known only to those who hate eating humble pie (har har...did you get my clever pun? lol) but i soon relaxed when i started flipping through the introduction and the recipes. the way they were explained seemed really simple and, most importantly, doable! my only complaint is that there aren't enough photographs in the book so i'm not quite sure what the end result is supposed to look like...

i chose to make something that seemed easy and wouldn't make me feel too out of my depth whilst still having a component that my little boy could help with - Fruity Flapjacks! it was sooooo easy and we had lots of fun making them and they tasted awesome! okay, admittedly, i added maple syrup to the recipe because i didn't have golden syrup but i FELT relaxed about making the substitution and that made the world of difference to how comfortably i performed in the kitchen!

i'm making Crunchy Cornflake Slices on Saturday to take to a kiddy party! get me!

"excellent ideas for little bakers"

When the book initially arrived I was a little disappointed to find it lacked pictures to inspire, however after sitting down with a cup of tea and really enjoying exploring the book I found lots of really easy recipes that me and my sons could enjoy doing together. The instructions are really easy to follow and the end products are scrumptious! We would highly recommend this book for those of us with little bakers in the family!

"Yummy!!!"

My daughter and I do baking every Tuesday so when we got this book we were incredibly excited. Initially I found the inside of the book slightly dull as there aren't lovely glossy pictures of what you are making. However, I have really quite liked this, all my cakes, buns and pastries have tasted lovely and I haven't tried to recreate the immaculate pictures that you normally see in these books.
There are some lovely recipes, I have to say that the carrott cake was fantastic - enjoyed by all! The instructions are easy to follow and clear. The only downside is that you really have to look at the recipes, you can't flick to find something that 'looks' nice.
I have tried about 8 recipes and can honestly say that they have all worked (even with a 3 year old 'helping')!! It is definately worth the money and I would recommend it for people new to baking and also those who are good bakers.

"good all rounder"

I quite liked this book as it has a variety of recipes and its easy to store. I enjoy baking and I have a couple of books already but there where some recipes that I didn't have so I was quite pleased to find them in this book. I tried some of the tray bakes and the pastry recipes I must say my niece's and nephews love the triple chocolate brownies on page 88. I think this book is going to be well used.

I have not tried the bread recipes yet but I am looking forward to it as I have always fancied making my own but up until now I have never felt able but this book is easy to follow and so far everything has tuned out great.

I would recommend this book to any one and I am going to buy it for my young niece as she kept asking to borrow mine.

Good Home Baking: How to make your own delicious cakes, biscuits, pastries and breads [Paperback]
218 pages
the back of the book reads as follows
From pastries to cakes, bread to biscuits, this book shows you how easy it is to do your own baking. In a world filled with preservatives and additives, home baking provides you with one of the healthiest, tastiest and cheapest ways of giving you and your family a treat. The mouth watering recipes in this book cover the basics - such as wholesome bread, delicious cakes and tray bakes (some with as little as three ingredients) - as well as a range of special treats for celebrations. Diana Peacock shows you just how enjoyable preheating the oven can be! As well as a vast recipe section, Diana includes in-depth techniques for perfectly risen cakes, the softest loaves and the crispest shortbread (as well as many more) that will ensure your tins are packed with goodies all year round. When home baking is this easy and tasty, why buy ready made?
