"An Unexpectedly Lovely Weekend Break"
We've just come back from a weekend away at the Crowne Plaza in Marlow in Buckinghamshire. The hotel is in an absolutely gorgeous location fronting an ornamental lake and surrounded by trees. Although it's got to be said you have to drive through an industrial estate to get to it and that did give me a kind of heartsink moment when I wondered what we'd let ourselves in for. That aside we had a fabulous weekend and yes we'd go back in a flash!
The reception staff were friendly and efficient and when we opened the door to our room, we really couldn't believe our eyes.
It was huge and very swish with two (yup...2!!) flatscreen TVs - one in the bedroom and one in the separate lounge area. We even had a mini-balcony with decking and a couple of chairs though as our room was on the groundfloor overlooking the carpark, unsurprisingly, we didn't actually sit outside.
There was a brilliant, well-equipped children's area in the Aqua Cafe Bar and outside on the grass by the Terrace Bar, there were plenty more toys for any children playing oustide.
We had a few beers sitting outside and it was unexpectedly lovely sitting there in the sunshine, looking out over the lake watching the children playing on the grass.
We ate a top-notch meal in the Graze Restaurant one night and went out into the town on another. Breakfast in the hotel was really good too and the service was incredibly fast. Coffee was delivered to the table in record time and so I was well pleased as one of my bugbears at hotel breakfasts is coffee taking too long to arrive at the table!
The swimming pool at the hotel was a good size too and we had a lovely swim one evenining and even went outside in the Hot Tub as the sun was going down.
We've already recommended the hotel to other people and I suspect we'll go back sometime and might even use it too the next time we fly from Heathrow as it's definitely near enough.
