"Top marks for safety and comfort, but struggle to remove from base"
Choosing a car seat was tough: we knew we didn’t want one to go onto our buggy but when faced with an entire wall of options in our local store, we were slightly baffled into all the different options available and didn’t really know where to start
Ticking both the safety and ease of use boxes, after much deliberation, we decided that for us, the seat would have to come with an isofix base. Whilst I do think car seats CORRECTLY fitted by seat belts alone are as safe as those on a base, for me, securing each time by a seat belt potentially was a bit of a faff.
After looking at all the options, we choose the newly released Concord Intense Car Seat and Isofix base package. This is quite a bit more expensive when compared to others, however, the quality of this product is outstanding. The seat is just so padded and comfortable, our LO loves to be in there and is happy on drives and just sitting in the seat at home (quite an achievement as currently the only other place he is happy is in our arms!).
Features of Concord Intense car seat:
• Six position pelvic support varying between 125 degrees so (up to 4 months) and 110 degrees (after 4 months)
• Seat position adjustable by hand
• Head support – no need to buy extra insert
• Robust shell
• 5 point harness system
• air circulation system (will ensure baby keeps cooler)and back
• Group 0+ // up to 13 kg // approx 18 months
Also, but not relevant to us:
Travel system adaptor feature for Concord Neo and Fusion
One handed release system from Travel system
Isofix platform features:
• Anti Roatation system with support, adjustable in 7 levels.
• Electronic display system: audible and visual signals control the correct anchor position so you know once you’ve fitted the seat correctly. Essentially beeps at you and different colours appear in boxes
Fitting the isofix base was quite a challenge, but this is more due to my car than the actual base itself. I think most other mums-to-be will need someone else to fit this base for them, most stores will do this for you. Once connected – it beeps and the visual indicators turn green – we were impressed with our secure this was fitted. Thankfully this would not be removed in a while. The base does move side to side, but this is normal. I was at first expecting this to be locked solid, which it isn’t, but we were assured by the manufacturer that some movement was absolutely fine.
Fitting the seat to the base was an absolute piece of cake and I managed this easily. Again, it beeps and visual indicators on the side change colour to let you know that it has been secured. We turned the audio off after our second practice run, it is loud and gets a tad annoying – plus I think would wake your sleeping baby! – however the visual guide is still there, plus of course, after a few goes it all starts making sense.
The seat is securely fitted and is incredibly comfortable for LO during a long ride
Removing the seat this is a real struggle and I’m marking the seat down for this. Despite several attempts I really struggle, so much so I’ve yet to remove it myself. Hubby goes back to work next week so I’ve got to master this by then! You basically have to push in a button on the isofix, which requires both of my hands and then lift the seat at the same time. With both hands busy on pushing the button, this is impossible. Its not just me being a wimp either – hubby has to use both hands and nudge the seat of with his shoulder!
Good points:
• Design – safety is key with integrated isofix base
• Comfort – a very smooth ride for LO, lovely padded seat, quality is extremely high
• Ergonomic design – fully supports baby and allows their spine to develop correctly
Bad points:
• Price – the total package is close to £400, significantly more than other seats and bases
• Removal of seat from base is ridiculously tough. Hubby can do it but I still cant!
Would I recommend this seat:
Due to the tough removal of the seat from the base, I would recommend this seat if you’re not planning to remove the seat from the car all the time – so if you’re happy fitting & removing baby in the car, as opposed to removing the seat. I will see if the seat removal gets easier over time and update this review. I can’t fault the design elements of this seat and LO is so comfortable in there (both during a drive and not). I would recommend this, but with the caveat that removal from the base is tough. Of course, you can side step this problem by fitting with seat belts.
