"Compact family friendly zoo"
Compact and well formed is the phrase that springs to mind about Amazona Zoo.
After a controversial start as many Cromer miseries were against it it eventually opened last year.
It's called Amazona as it is themed on South American animals only.
It's a reasonable small zoo but very nicely done in with mature woodland around it.
If you buy a season ticket on your day of entry they discount what you have already paid off the cost. Under 4's are free!
Most of the zoo has concrete footpaths but there are some shingle and dirt paths but these can be avoided if necessary.
The cafe is lovely with a terrace balcony overlooking the lake and undercover too and prices are not unreasonable all things considered.
The shop has something for every pocket from 50p upwards and not too badly priced.
Staff are friendly and helpful and they have regular feeding talks the otters and big cats are worth seeing but not for the squeamish!!
Theres a lovely indoor tropical area with crocodiles, huge fish, piranhas lots of plants etc.
Everything has ramps so if both pushchair and wheelchair friendly although I recommend sticking to the concrete paths unless you have an all terrain buggy.
There is a reasonable playground for the slightly older kids 4+ I guess any younger ones will need help getting up to the slides as access is a ladder or scramble net so the younger visitor may struggle a bit.
There are plenty of picnic tables around for taking your own food I recommend the seating area above the Tapirs for an excellent view.
Maybe not quite a full day out here but Cromer and Sheringham are also close by so round the day off with a trip round the shops or beach or head off for an ice cream or fish n chips.
Amazone Zoo is owned by the same company as Thrigby Hall wildlife gardens
