Many of you may be aware by now that summer started in May. This is according to the lunar calendar which plots the seasons following natural cycles of the moon and the changes on our planet. This means that the seasons come at slightly different times each year. Each season is connected to various body organs, tissue and functions. The season has an indirect effect on those particular organs at that time of year. Summer is related to the Heart in Chinese medicine. The Heart controls the flow of blood around the body, it houses the mind of the person and it is connected to the emotion of Joy.
The mind includes the spirit and this is said to live or reside in the heart not the head. If we become excited, stressed or anxious our heart beats more quickly and we may experience palpitations (speeding up of the heart). This is caused by the mind having too much stimulation from over activity. This may make you feel a little panicky, anxious or light headed. Your mind may also become over active and you just can’t stop thinking!
