Mum's Favourite Mother's Day Gift
With Mother's Day on March 14th, it seems that everyone wants to know what gifts mums prefer!

In a survey by Thistle Hotels, 43% of mums nationwide have expressed they’d prefer breakfast in bed this Mother’s Day over flowers or chocolates. The hotel chain found that a good old-fashioned lie-in accompanied by English tea and toast is the clear winner when it comes to providing the perfect Mother’s Day treat, with other traditional gifts such as chocolates (24%), flowers (21%) and cuddly toys (12%) much lower down. So mums prefer home-made gestures to fancy gifts then!

TheDotComGiftShop, on the other hand, say that most mums would prefer a lovely, big hug on Mother’s Day. Over 200 mums were asked in their poll what they would most like to receive as a Mother’s Day gift, and ‘a cuddle’ was the number-one choice for an incredible 52% per cent of the mums. ‘Chocolates’, though, didn’t receive a single first-choice vote. The traditional default Mother’s Day gift of ‘flowers’ finished some way down the list being wanted by just 2% of mums, slightly less popular than ‘breakfast in bed’ (3%).

In fact, flowers are far from the safe bet they are often thought to be. As part of the survey, mums were asked to name the worst Mother’s Day presents they had received. ‘Last minute flowers from corner shop and no card’, ‘petrol station flowers’ and, similarly, ‘garage forecourt flowers’were amongst the front-runners.

Surprise, surprise though research by Sudocrem, the nappy cream bods, has a slightly different slant. They asked over 1,600 mums what gave them their most important daily boost and 30% said it was the sight of their baby’s perfect bottom, way ahead of shoes (4%), flowers (15%) and handbags (6%). ‘A kiss from my partner’ is the only competition for a little one’s cute little tush – 31% of mums agree it’s the tops for putting a smile on their face.

But one mum sums up the general feeling: “Being a mum I am very pleased to receive anything, especially a cuddle - the worst would be if they dared to forget!”
