Baby Bath Routine

Baby Bath Routine
Bathing a newborn baby is a bit like wrestling with a slippery eel!

The important thing is to be prepared and stay nice and relaxed. Below are 8 steps to a good baby bath routine.

Bullet Get ready! Assemble all necessary bath accessories

Bullet Make sure the room is warm and the bath water is comfortably warm but not hot; about 38 degrees Centrigrade / 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit

Bullet For newborns and babies up to six months old, fill the bath just enough to allow your baby to settle in the water with shoulders well covered. For older children, never fill the bath more than waist-high (in sitting position)

Undress your baby at the bath area to keep your baby at a comfortable temperature

Bullet Wash him from top to bottom, front to back. Use moistened cotton wool to clean his eyes and face. If needed, dab it several times with a small section of moistened cotton wool to soften it before you wipe.

Bullet Skip the Bubbles! Bubbles are almost a ritual and children love them! But, many of the bubbles you use will leave his skin stripped of the oils skin need? Children and babies often have fairly dry skin as it produces less natural oils, therefore the foaming agents can easily irritate your child’s skin stripping the natural oils present in the skin

Bullet Gently pat the water off instead of rubbing skin dry. This will save your baby’s skin the misery of "towel abuse" most mums habitually inflict. By patting skin you will be able to retain more of the moisture you're going to seal in with our next step: body moisturiser.

Bullet Apply a lanolin* base moisturising lotion soon after the bath. It's important to seal in the moisture from the shower, and the quicker you do this, the better skin will look and feel.

Why is Lanolin the Natural Choice for Mother & Baby Products?
There is no other single ingredient that provides the same benefits as lanolin. You would have to use several other ingredients to obtain even some of these attributes, which would, consequently, drive the cost of products up. Lanolin is the the must-have ingredient for leading Mother and Baby brands including Lansinoh Lanolin, E45 and Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula. 100% naturally derived from a sustainable source, it’s the logical option for mothers who want to play a part in caring about the world their child

will inherit.

Lanolin has had a long history of safe use throughout global personal care markets. Studies have shown lanolin’s safe application on irritated skin types in treatments of sensitive skin conditions. Further more, lanolin is a popular ingredient of choice for even the most delicate of skin types. 7 out of the 10 most popular baby nappy creams from around the world contain lanolin. E45 is the most-prescribed emollient in the world and has helped millions of people around the world take care of their skin since the 1950’s. E45 is a range of dry skin products which aids the healing of dry skin conditions including psoriasis and eczema. E45 Cream and E45 Lotion contains Medilan(TM), an ultra-purified, hypoallergenic form of lanolin, which has excellent moisturising abilities. It is this ingredient that is ultimately responsible for the repair and replenishment of the skin’s natural skin barrier. Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Formula Massage Cream for Stretch Marks contains Lanolin Alcohol and is a favourite amongst mothers. It has a unique blend of pure Cocoa Butter, Vitamin E, Collagen and Elastin and the added benefit of Lanolin to help improve the appearance of stretch marks, which can be the result of pregnancy.”

To maximise the care that parents give to their child, it’s crucial to take the time to look at the ingredients listing on the back of packs and choosing products that contain Lanolin is a good start. Look out for names including lanolin, Medilan, HPA lanolin and wool fat (pharmaceutical grade).
