There comes a time in everyone's life when a great idea springs to mind. Everyone has a dream, but sadly many of those dreams remain just that - dreams!
The Baby Website was our dream. We are Kathryn and Nigel Crawford, the site founders. Back in a previous life we were professionals in other industries, but we began to realise that no matter what we did, the only benefit we were getting was the pay cheque at the end of each month.
We wanted to do something that would make other peoples lives better. Something that could educate and inform as well as entertain and amuse. Being parents of five teenage children, Helena (18), Tom (17), Maddie (17), Megan (15), and Matthew (14), we realised we had one thing that every parent has after the event, but often not before, and that was a wealth of knowledge about parenting and bringing up children. Nigel had always wanted to create a website and I was particularly interested in the promotion of breastfeeding, so it went without saying that the two fitted together nicely.

The Baby Website project started in early 2006 and was launched during the summer of that year. Working from our office in Cardiff, it involved a great deal of work and commitment, as we wanted to make sure that the site offered new and expectant parents the information they wanted, but presented in an accessible way and with plenty of related features to make them laugh, cry, frown or smile. We also keep you up to date with the latest baby-related news from around the world.
Having a new baby can be the happiest time of your life, and it is only natural to share that happiness with others. However, members of our team at The Baby Website can also directly identify with the terribly sad issues surrounding the unexpected death of a baby. With this in mind, we support FSID (Foundation for the Study of Infant Death) and SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) with their good work.
Conversely, there's no shortage of laughs on the site either. Our regular columnist and writer Dave Fouracre, aka 'Dave the Dad' conveys his hilarious thoughts on being a Dad, and how things are perceived from the male parent's point of view. There are plenty of jokes and funny stories to keep you smiling when baby is restless in the early hours.
The Baby Website has been lucky enough to have been embraced by many respected medical and other professionals, as well as some of the biggest and best known companies in the UK. However, we maintain a truly independent view on the whole subject of bringing up a baby and continue to resist any pressure to advocate the wishes of any particular manufacturers of baby-related products or services. We feel very strongly that it is better for parents to make their own minds up based on thorough and unbiased advice and information, together with their own thoughts and ideas.
Although based in the UK, we are very much aiming at the international community. We are always open to suggestions from organisations and individuals from any countries in order to make our site enjoyable and accessible to all.
The Baby Website is constantly looking to the future and all the latest technological advances will be used to make any parent or prospective parent's experience of the site as fulfilling and enjoyable as possible. Bringing up baby needn't be as hard as it seems. The Baby Website can help all new Mums and Dads find the best for their baby in a way that's best for them.
