I'm doing the NVQ 2 and started my placement today at Jayden's school with the Infants class :)

After the initial nerves I settled in ok and actually enjoyed myself. The teacher is really lovely, the kids are fab, and it's generally a really nice school.

I was even given various groups of small children to work with and watch over for various activities, I was stunned as wasn't expecting that on my first day. Obviously the teacher was close at hand with some other children but it was lovely to be given a bit of responsibility, get my hands dirty so to speak, and get a taste of what's to come. Gave me an opportunity to get to know some of the children too.

It's DEFO far more interesting than my current job, so if I continue to enjoy like I did today then i'll know i've made the right decision and the hard work for the course itself will be worth it.

Back in tomorrow and i'm looking forward to it :D

Oh and i'll forever be known as 'Jayden's Mum' hehe, they all knew exactly who I was this morning

Thanks, I really hope I continue to enjoy it as much and the novelty doesn't wear off.
The time definitely goes quicker than sitting in an office lol, just a shame I still have to do that every week too :(

Aww I got 3 hugs today - well one little girl came and threw her arms around my legs and then two others followed lol. Not sure what I did to deserve them

More fun again today and took groups again for activities.

Starting to get a feel for the environment now too, and also working out how to control the kids who don't quite concentrate as much as the others - think I made progress with that today :)

Looking forward to going back next week. Just wish I didn't have to go back to my normal boring job tomorrow :( bit it brings in the money.

Still loving my placement <3 loads more hugs today, even one off one of the boys lol.
Plus did some new activities - was basically in charge of a group of 5 kids today while I took them outside to study mini-beasts. Wasn't completely alone (we are told we should never be left alone with the children, for obvious reasons) as a support teacher was with us but her main priority was a special needs child, so it was basically down to me. I felt it went really well and I think the kids enjoyed :)

We are slowly being fed college work, still not enough for my liking BUT next week is our last week before 1/2 term so we may be set more before then.
And we should be meeting our assessor so i'm assuming she'll start coming out to visit us on placement after the 1/2 term holiday - although nothing is very clear if i'm honest so i'm just going with the flow and doing what I can on placement.

I'm also learning so much off my own steam through trial and error. If I do an activity with a group and I feel it doesn't go very well (perhaps i'll try to be more one to one with the kids but it gets a bit hectic) i'll then try different tack with the next group, most of the time it works out better. I'm surprising myself with how i'm handling them - whether what i'm doing it right I don't know as i've not yet had any feedback, but I hope i'm on the right track.

So far, so good :D

Sounds like you're on the right track to me. If you're happy doing what you're doing at the placement, are challenging yourself, being rewarded with hugs and are leaving with a smile on your face, it can't be half bad! :D
