Im due to have my little one in 3 weeks time and finally this pregnancy has gone full term When i had Leann she was moved to a different hospital due to neonatal being full and i found out she was put on antibiotics to prevent infection. Me being me just thought it was general procedure for a prem baby but ive now found out this was due to me being a carrier of Strep B (scared the hell out of me at 1st as sounded like a sexual disease! Tho i know different now) My labours with my previous 2 children was quick (leann only being 30 mins) so im now worried on how they will deal with this birth and will i be able to bring her stright home etc... I know i should have asked my MW but i dont see her again till 2 wks time so just wondering if anyone else has been confirmed as a carrier and if so what happened regarding antibiotics? x

hi hun i didnt find out i was a carrier until my 3rd pregnancy and they put me on antibiotics during labour not sure if this was because i went 6 weeks early but everything was fine baby didnt need anything others never had anything as i dont think they tested me so didnt know i was a carrier can you not call the midwife and ask her to explain more rather than worrying til you see her next xxxx

I am also a carrier of Group B strep. I found out with my second pregnancy as I was tested. I haven't had chance to have antibiotics (they put the thing to attach the antibiotic drip to into my arm but no actual antibiotics) with any of the labours as they have all been quick. If I had gone to the hospital earlier and had the antibiotics whilst I was in labour then I would have been able to go home earlier. They just kept me and babies in for 24 hours to keep an eye on the babies. The midwife told me as my labour was quick there was less chance of baby being infected but they kept me in as a precaution. They just checked babies every half hour. All my children are fine and didn't have any problems.
Like you other two ladies i didnt have time for antibiotics either yet the anoying thing was i phoned labour suite up 6 hours before she was born but they told me to wait until the contractions was longer as they was 2-3mins apart but only 30-40 seconds long, so by the time i got to hospital i was 8cm dilated. They gave baby antibiotics twice a day for 2days then took blood to see if it was showing signs of infection but thankfully she wasnt.
