Hi! There is a parents support group in our special needs school where my older son goes. It is once a week, but I usually go once a month for a cup of tea and a chat. I also take my little one along as he can play with the toys there.
Anyway, the last time I visited the group as soon as I entered the room, there was a pervading smell of poo. I noticed there was a young girl running around. I found an empty seat (later realised why it wasn't occupied). Everyone was trying not to breathe in too deep. The Mum of the girl (who is not special needs) seemed to be oblivious that the stench was overwhelming. I couldn't have any tea, to be honest.
Nobody mentioned the aroma. I didn't say anything as I haven't met this Mum before, and didn't want to scare her off.
45 mins later she took her daughter to the loo next door, so clearly she did have a change of nappies and clothes with her. Soon they left. Someone else used the loo afterwards and warned the rest not to go there as it was very messy.
Now, my question is: would you say something to the Mum? Would you ask her to change her child's nappy? or would you be diplomatic, keep silent on the matter and suffer the smell?
