Just wondering if anyone used one in the early stages of labour and what you thought?

I used mine from when the pain from the contractions became so bad that I couldn't speak. When I first used it, I had it on quite high, but by the time I was at the hospital less than 2 hours later, it was on maximum! I was already 7cm dilated by then, and in so much pain, I couldn't be bothered to put my trousers back on to walk down the corridoor to the birthing pool! I'm sure that if I didn't use my TENS machine, the contractions would've been even more painful, (if that's imaginable). The TENS machine just took the edge of the pain ever so slightly, but enough to stop me from fighting them which is crucial according to my midwife! I would defintely use one again!

I used one throughout my labour, and it was fantastic. You have to start using it right from the first few contractions for your body to build up the pain killing stuff (sorry, my brain has completely stopped working today!), turning it up as your contractions get stronger. I managed a 8lb 15.5oz baby with just my TENS machine and the gas and air at the end, so I think they're brilliant! You just have to use it correctly :) xxx

My wife used tens with the first 3 kids and she swore by it but said it worked better when she waited until she was really feeling the pain to use it rather than when she used it at the beginning!

That's exactly what I did. I waited until I was in established labour, and in proper pain before I put it on and it worked a treat. I'm not sure I would have made it to the hospital without it. :D
