And its suddenly dawning on me that its really going to happen

He was so brave, he needed to have some blood tests and he has never had one before but not a murmur.

He goes in on the 5th May at 7am, so only a few weeks away now. The dr's are splitting his calf muscle to use to pull his foot the right way round and then lengthening the other half so he can put his foot to the floor. He has also got to have plates put in his foot to stop it twisting back again

Ryan cant weight bare for 6 weeks ! and will be in a plaster cast from his hip to toe for 20hrs a day ( hinge and velcro - very clever !) and under that cast is a half cast ( like for broken legs) which will be on 24hrs a day for 6-8 weeks

Everything was in place - redone his bedroom ( new low bed etc) childcare sorted etc but now his school are being difficult.

The school is suppose to be disabled friendly - mobile ramp, disabled loo's etc but now they are saying he may need to be home schooled as the ramp is no good to go up the 2 steps in the other part of the building where the disabled loo is and he would have to be wheeled round the outside of the building to get their which isn't practical ! grrr but thats for me to deal with after the op.

Its going to be a long 6m ahead !

Big op but it will all be worth it in the end.

Shame the school are not prepared for this type of thing - surely its a necessity at a school??!! Couldnt you get the local mp involved? Its hardly a hassle wheeling ryan around the outside just fo rthe toilet - I mean how many times would he need to go in a school day anyway??

Good luck xx

yeah it is a big op - 3 1/2 - 4hrs

That's what i said to the school, they even have their disability policy on their website.

Their argument is he may need assistance getting on and off the loo ( due to him only having full use of i hand ) and they cant provide that kind of support. Ryan has never used the loos in school in the 3 years he has been their as in his words "they are rank !" They want to come and see his after his op to see him get about and whn he is due back to school they want me to go with him to show them how he can manage

So cross because Ryan is in the high achievers group and is starting is GCSE's now. He deserves to have the support of HIS teachers not a tutor.

I'd be kicking up a stink with the school. By law they can't discriminate against anyone, and what are they doing? Erm...... that'll be discriminating against Ryan because he 'might want to go to the loo'!!!
We know you won't give up, you never have and never will, get your fighting head on and give 'em hell!!!

Glad his pre-op went well hun. He is a very brave boy & it must be so scary for you but just concentrate on how much better he will be afterwards if you can. I also can't believe the attitude of the school! Keep on & them hun, it's not right at all for him to have to be home-schooled just because of the loo situation.... and who's silly idea was it to put a disabled loo in when disabled people can't access it?????!!!!
