After reading the playground games post its got me thinking (stand back so you dont smell the burning!)

Do you think nowadays we are too protective of our children? I mean do you think schools are too worried about injuries and basically ban everything fun 'just in case'

As a parent I would quite happily allow my child to use skipping ropes,play in the snow,play conkers,play Red Rover and although I wouldn't wish pain on any of them I would rather they played and risked injuries than never got to play this way at all.Its the fear factor that sometimes makes games so exhilarating!

I know some parents would prefer their child was totally safe at school and the teachers dont want to be responsible for any child hurting themselves but I would happily sign something that said my child could play freely and I wouldn't sue them if they got a scab or a bleeding nose,or worse

Do you think we have gone a step too far in how we protect our children?

I think that you are right i never hear that kids so what we used to in schools they should really bring back all the games and stuff kids just seemed to be boared i know schools play football but what about the girls?

I think its so stupid. I couldnt believe when my sister told me that if there was snow they closed down the school in case the kids fall and the school gets sued!!! It is ridiculous what will be next stop school dinners in case a kid burns its mouth on the food????

defo agree here when was the last time you walked down the street in the summer and seen kids playing skip rope or some of the old fun games and hope i dont affend anyone but i think there are alot more over weight children due to this all kids seem to do these days is sit in with there computer its a smae really xxxxxxxxxxx

My kids will be playing all of those things, if the opportunity came up. It is part of child hood, it is not nice obviously if they get hurt, but to be honest i would prefer my kids could have an actual child hood, than not do things 'just in case'. Those things are fun. I would still be skipping with a skipping rope if i could

I agree Julie. Things have gone way too far imo. Mind you if there wasn't so much of a compensation culture I dn't suppose it would be so bad. I suppose the schools have to think about this & cover themselves accordingly. It's the fault of the greedy people who would sue over such things, that's what has made schools the way they are!

It's pathetic. To be honest how many kids suffered from snowball fights etc? They all go out after school and do it, so why not at school?! At the kids' school there are paths cleared in the snow leading to the main building to the huts etc and they aren't allowed to wander onto the snow until hometime!!! Mind you Jaidyn loves it as there's loads of untouched snow for her to trample through!!

i totally agree with all your opinions ladies everything has gone to madness! i used to play allsorts and got injured a few times in the process..... but kids bounce..(my moms saying.....wonder how many times she dropped me as a child before she realised this...worrying )
ill not be wrapping my kids up in cotton wool thats for sure!
