Started Jack on some (Gluten free Aptamil) Baby Porridge yesterday and he's had some today, both times at lunch time, inbetween his half 10 and half 2 feeds. We decided he was ready and he can sit up with little support, makes chewing actions with his mouth and watches us eat and made us feel guilty that we didn't share with him. Well it went well yesterday, tried to mix up baby rice first but that was a faff with mixing the right amount up with the right amount of milk and it didn't seem to mix well, so we got the porridge out (also from 4 months) as that already has milk in it and just needs to be mixed up with previously boiled water. He loved it even more today, his mouth is open as soon as the spoon is lifted before he's even swallowed what he's got. Just going to continue slowly with him and get him used to different flavours of fruit and veg til he is 6 months. In a way, if they seem ready, I think it is beneficial to start before 6 months (though not too early) because they can get used to foods more easily than rushing them at 6 months to get onto textured foods and meat and fish etc. This way we can take it slowly. At the same time as his meal I am offering him some water out of a Tommee Tippee sippy cup (4 months but free flow so he gets used to not having to suck). He's having a bit but was less keen today but shall keep giving him bits so he gets used to the taste of water and the cup. He's also been sleeping through the night again for the past few nights (nothing to do with the food as it started before that) so think his growth spurt must have passed! He still wanted the food though. Carrot tomorrow.

Bless him, way to go Jack! My lot were all weaned around 4-5 months, with the older three the recommended age was 4 months, so when I found out it had changed to 6 months by the time I had Jaidyn I thought sod that for a game of soldiers

Well done Jack. I weaned Ella at 16 weeks and even then still couldn't keep with her demand for food hehehehe. We tried the baby rice, but she hated it. Straight onto real food for her and never looked back. Not started yet with the twins, supposed to wait till 7.5 months (cos they were 6 weeks prem) but stuff that! Following baby led weaning, so will wait till they ready. At least a few weeks yet I reckon. Although they have started following our food - my ice cream was totally grudged yesterday by both girls xx

When i had Leann (and jake, but he loved all bottles and solids lol) the HV made me mean her (she was 9 wks prem and jake was 8wks) due to something to do with their iron storage reducing like she was full term... it was horrible as she wasnt ready at all so it was like i was force feeding her

I know this an older post but all 3 of my babies were prem (9 wks, 5 wks and 4 wks) and was advised to feed them when they are ready but not to worry if they aren't ready till there corrected agae igwim.
Georgia, 9 wks prem wasn't ready till near 11 months and has been a fab eater since.
Theo was BLW from 6 months
And little Olivia 7 months has only this week taken to food

Well done Jack! Hes doing really well, we started weaning Lewis at 4 months because he was a hungry baby amd he literally ate anything that was put infront of him. Even now he eats pretty much anything, and even now I think thats because he was weaned on pure pureed fruit and veg.
