As most of you will know, Liam has a number of allergies including a serious egg allergy- he went into anaphylactic shock last year due to having one bite of a saveloy. His school have always been aware of this, and the nursery and reception staff were always very supportive. Its in his school medical records too- I have a yearly meeting with school nurse to update things. Yesterday he had made a cupcake in school- I didnt let him eat it and gave him a rice crispie cake at home instead. Today, half his class had taken in hard boiled eggs for easter, to decorate. I spoke to his teacher who said she knew nothing about it and hadnt told kids to bring in. When asked about the cake, she seemed totally unaware he shouldnt have them!Ive kept Liam off school today as dont want him to become ill. Not sure what to do next I said I wouldnt mind keeping him off in order for the rest of the class to do things with eggs, just tell me first!

Don't blame you for being angry, I'd be the same. Due to allergies at our primary kids aren't allowed to bring anything into a class that could affect another pupil. We have letters sent out if there is a child with allergies in class with a list of what can't be brought in.

Charlie is Lactose Intolerant - to save hassle I have told his teacher he is to have nothing with milk in. The reception staff made it well aware to the teacher in his new class about his intolerance to lactose - and even the fact that he cant play in the sand without gloves because of his eczema.
His teacher is always updating me about what they are doing - making pancakes - i took in his milk and checked her ingrediants, if children bring in cakes etc for their birthdays they have a secret stash of things charlie is allowed in a drawer.

I cant believe Liam has been in her class for 6mths and she knew nothing!!! I would write a serious letter to the head or even make a meeting, she should be aware of this especially as its such a serious thing.

Our children are not even allowed peanut butter at school for lunch due to a boy who has a Serious nut allergy - even the smell can set him off.

God I would be fuming!

That is shocking!
We have to be extra vigilant in the class with all the alergies our kids have, and always make sure we know what medication or problems the kids have before we do anything with them. If they have food allergies etc and we are baking, we keep the child away from the item they are allergic to, and make sure they have no contact with it all. That is what they should be doing. I would definately complain to the HT - she should have made the teacher aware of the situation, and demand the problem is looked into why this happened.

Yes, hes on his Easter half term break now but I will definetely be speaking to the Head when he goes back to make sure nothing like this happens again
