I have been watching One Born Every Minute and am quite horrified at the screaming.

When I had my children we were given The New Childbirth by Erna Wright to read. We also practised the relaxation techniques.

I controlled my labour well and gave birth three times without any anaesthetics at all, not even gas and air. I did not scream or shout.

Are there still relaxation classes? Do women know exactly what is happening during stages of labour? The knowledge helped me cope.

I still use the techniques in event of any pain.

I recommend the book The New Childbirth by Erna Wright. I am sure it can still be obtained if anyone would like to read it.

I must be a wimp, as I took gas and air all 4 times, and screamed with the first and third babies. I can't remember if I screamed with the second as I was drugged up with pethidine, and I know I was okay with the fourth, just groaned (and he was 10lb 3oz). There is no point in me reading your book, as I'm finished having babies!
A relaxed frame of mind does help, as I was definately more relaxed with my fourth, and it didn't really feel too sore.

I am not saying you are wimps if you have drugs.
I am wondering if they teach natural childbirth any more?
I was relieved to know that I could have pain relief if I asked for it. [smilie=1eye.gif]

I screamed - very loudly
But by the time I got to hospital I had already been in active labour for almost 17 hours - little did I know I still had another 8 hours to go :(
And I will take every drug known to man if I get offered it this time round
xx

Never heard of it to be honest!! Bring on the gas and air and pethidine [smilie=clap.gif] [smilie=clap.gif] Fin was induced and i had him on gas and air and one jab of pethidine same with Erin but she was back to back and agony, far worse than Fin. But i never screamed once, just a lot of iya iya iyas and a couple of f swear words when they were crowning! I got told by my mum that to scream is to waste your energy which you will need later.
