help please on this one
thomas wants a mobile from santa but he is only 7 (8 in march) but you hear alsorts of things about them being dangerous for children
he says all his friends have one i really dont know what to do
what would you do ?

i know what you mean hun they seem to be getting younger and younger
my mum says no when he says his friends have them mums answer is well if his friends take drugs will you allow him which is true she says he has to learn he cant do everything just cause his friends do
oh why did he have to add this to his list

Have you got an old one you can make pay as you go then at least its not an expensive new one. See how he gets on with that then say if he looks after it he might get one for his birthday.

he would only be getting a cheap pay as you go anyway
just worried as there are report that children with mobiles are more likely to be ill and stuff
he does look after stuff really well so that side of things isnt a problem its more what im doing to his health
just really dont know what to do about it as i always get them everything on there lists

I think it would depend on when or why he would use it.

Alisha has one but only because she goes to her dads on Fridays and likes to speak to me while she's there without having to ask him permission.

One good thing about them is you can get Thomas to do odd jobs to build up money for more credit.Having one has helped Alisha learn to save for things she wants.

On the other hand he may get it and be totally bored of it within a month

i really dont no shaz all his friends have them biu i do thnk he his still a bit young not sure what to say xxxx

I'd like to bet ALL his friends don't have them. There may be the odd one or 2 in his year who have them in order to contact an absent parent or something but it's not commonplace for a child of that age to have one. My 7 year old tried that one on me....he failed miserably. We do have a family mobile that he will have access to should he ever need one (which isn't going to happen for a few years yet!!!!).
My older children get their mobiles when they were old enough to do paper rounds and had to pay to top them up themselves.
