Hiys was wondering if somebody can help me? Lewis has been getting weaned for about 3 weeks now, and now has plenty of pureed fruit and veg, Was just wondering when do I start introducing finger foods? He has a really good grasp and even likes to take his own spoon and feed himself too. Thanks

I have only just introduced finger food to Ella Jess and she is 8 months old. Let Lewis get used to all tastes first - and wait till he is on 3 meals a day ( solids) xx

Ella doesn't have teeth yet! We didn't get invited to weaning class - just kinda going with the flow He does have to be able to cope with lumpier foods b4 finger foods - at least stage 2 foods b4 starting finger foods. I give Ella heinz biscotti biscuits, rich tea, crusts of bread, bread sticks. She loves fruit and veg, but hates the slimy texture of fruit or cooked veg so wont touch them wee monkey! xx

He takes baby rice, baby porridge (All the different flavours), Pureed sunday dinner, any pureed vegetables. So so far I think ive been lucky, he particularly likes carrot potato and parsnip lol Fingers crossed he just stays like this and doesnt turn fussy overnight! I dont think I could deal with it

brendan is 6 months & he has finger foods soft cooked fruit & veg with out any problem. but he is teethin at the mo & it seems 2 help him with it, but then he was weaned at 20wks. 1 of the hv's at the clinic told me you could start weaning by giving finger foods known as baby-led weaning. i never though i was too scared he might choke its only been in the last few weeks I've tried this

I took the baby-led weaning aproach as Oscar seemed to like to grasp and hold the food before he ate it. By the time he was 7 months old, he was eating sandwiches, carrots, apples rice cakes and all sorts even a few weeks before he had his teeth come through (he used to gum everything to death!). At that age, he was virtually eating the same foods as us and preferred to finger-feed himself rather than be fed by us. I never saw there being any risk of choking as I was always sat right next to him, so if anything did happen, I was right there to sort it. I would never leave him to feed unsupervised just in case he did choke. He's 13 months old now, and still prefers to feed himself, and has never choked at all. He especially likes to feed himself, when like now, he is teething. I think the biting and chewing helps to alleviate the pain. x
