My little lad has always been the anxious type, hated water on his head, fussy eater, I could go on, total opposite of older brother. But our issue is using the toilet to poo, he just won't do it. I've always been quite relaxed, he'll do it in his own time was my motto, but he's five now ans still as nervous as ever. Has anyone else ever had this one to deal with? No amount of bribary is working and the tears are coming thick and fast if I even dare mention we see/talk to someone else to help us. I feel very alone and pretty embarassed now. Advice much appreciated. Thanks

He will be at school soon if he isnt already so he will be holding it in when he is there which cant be comfy.
He may have a health issue or it may just be that he is scared,either way you need to at least talk to a professional for help and advice,your son doesnt need to know to start with.

I would start with the hv

He doesnt know whats best for him,hes only 5,you need to take control now and get some help

I agree with Vicky, you really need to speak to someone.
My friend's daughter was the exact same. she would wee in the loo, no problem, but a poo? Forget it. She would hold on all day until she had her bedtime pull up on. Her GP referred her to a clinic at the local hospital that dealt with this type of problem. It took around a year, but she got there in the end.
Speak to your HV/GP without him at first, that way you can explain everything without any tears getting in the way. They'll probably want to see him, but at least you'll have been able to explain the situation beforehand, so they can spend time calming him down and then getting him help, if need be.
