As you know, Sarah has been having problems lately, mainly the swellings in her neck. She has also been complaining about pain under her rib cage, on her right side, so I took her to the doctor's yesterday.
The doctor said it could take up to 2 months for the lumps to dissappear, and did I know that Sarah had a heart murmur?
No, that was the first time it has been diagonosed. She said sometimes when children are sick, the can get a heart murmur, but it can go away again. She is referring her to the hospital, but says it will hopefully be gone by the time she gets the appointment. Hopefully.
Does anyone know about heart murmurs?
Does Sarah need to take it easy now until she sees the consultant and we find out more?

Oh poor Sarah
From what i know ( and it is not a huge amount), heart murmurs can vary in seriousness. From fairly innocent that will come and go throughout her childhood - brought on by stress, upset, illness etc, to serious that will change lives. Think you need to find out what kind she has, but the fact Dr didn't seem too bothered by it suggests the first kind. Could just be because of the lumps and having to go to the Dr so often etc that has caused it. As far as I know dont think there has to be any changes to her lifestyle until you find out what kind of murmur it is.
Hopefully it will all settle down soon
xx

Eva was born with a heart murmur! When they told me i was so distraught and cried for ages but actually it can be harmless! lots of people can have them and not no anything of them! Eva had 3 small holes around her heart and 2 have closed the other has shrunk and i have been told will eventually disappear. The drs told me to look out for symptoms such as grey looking in the face, breathless, tiredness things like that! Hope everything goes ok at hosp hopefully it would have gone by then fingers crossed xxx

First of all, don't worry Audrey. Megan was born with a couple of heart problems (2 holes and a defective valve) and had open heart surgery when she was 2 to close a big hole in her heart (ASD) and to try to fix her pulmonary valve. She still has an impressive scar down the whole of her chest although now she is nearly 18 it has faded lots. They were unable to fix the valve and so she still has a heart murmur caused by the leaky valve. They have said though at all her checks that she is doing well and is unlikely to have any problems until she first gets pregnant. When she does get pregnant she will be under a consultant the entire time and will be seen as a higher risk pregnancy because of the extra stress on the heart. She might eventually need a replacement valve but not for the foreseeable future. After Megan was diagnosed, the others were all looked at and it turns out that Maddie also has a heart murmur but in her case it's just an 'extra noise' and 'nothing to worry about'. So chances are Audrey that that's the case with Sarah too as most heart murmurs are nothing to worry about. Mums are born to worry though as we all know so just ask your doctor to explain things a bit more clearly and tell him you're concerned.

Don't worry yourself too much Audrey. As has already been said, the condition can vary. Hope all's well when she sees the Doc again. x
