So for those who dont know know I was in St Andrew's Ambulance first aid since I was 5 years old. Have treated more than my fair share of nasty injuries - yes have rescucitated several people (lost count actually hehe) some lived and unfortunately some didn't, saw serious spinal injuries, plus injuries where he guy was nearly no longer a man

, plus millions of the more minor injuries. However, due to politics (and backstabbing ba*****s) they forced dad and I out of a voluntary organisation, threatening legal action (wont go into the details cos it pretty crap)
Anyway that was 12 or so years ago I was forced to retire, and have only been teaching or covering exams in first aid in that time.
Today though dad asked me to help him cover a Karate competition as the 2 first aiders. he went last year, but I was not well this time last year, and heavily pregnant with the twins
Off we went, but this idiot who was a medic on the oilrigs, decided that even though he was there as a spectator he was going to muscle in. I got pushed out the road on every casualty, he then re-treated anyone I treated, and generally p***ed me off. One guy got a nasty cut to the eyebrow. He had just finished fighting and was all sweaty, so I cleaned his eye best as i could, put paper stitches on, and a dressing, but warned the guy that as he was so sweaty it wouldn't stick, He would've been better stemming the blood and coming to me when he had cooled down. Dont be daft says he, so I carried on. Numpty features went over, minutes after I had sent the guy away and re-treated the entire eye

This was the way of the day. So I was quite annoyed all day.
On a plus side, saw the most spectactular knock out ever - wee guy flew 3ft into the air after a kick to his jaw. Upon coming round he asked "what hit me??????" Lots of idiots going to be black and blue tomorrow, with I reckon at least 10 folk with a severe concussion. Did advise them all to go to hospital to get checked over, but the all ignored me - some even fought another 2 or 3 times after the initial concussion
So having experienced my first karate competition, I'm left thinking it a little like a cat fight in the street and not so much karate. Prob wont go back to next one, if that idiot will be there, but told the organiser that and he had a go at the "medic". We'll see.
So now off to bed, exhausted, loaded with the cold, got a sore head and a sore hand from punching open 30 odd ice packs. Been a while since I used that many ice packs, and my wee hand has weakened to the sensation. Annoyed with that numpty, but it felt good to be doing a bit of hands on first aid again

The skills are still there
