Thought my fight for Alex was over for now BUT

His current teacher asked if his school place was kept open until he returned and I said yes the speech therapist said but then I realised I never actually ever asked anyone that question.

Yesterday a very shocked teacher came up to me and said, I am really shocked Mrs Davies but the head is refusing to keep Alex`s place in school :(

I thought it was his right to have it kept as this school is only temp and he should be able to return to the same class and group of friends :?:

I have been onto loads of people this morning but so far no one has been able to confirm anything. The teacher thinks this is the heads take on it and not the offical standing from the council so I am waiting for a few phone calls to find out where we stand on Alex`s return to school.

AND believe me if he wants a fight he has got one as I now want it in writing before Alex leaves that his place will be waiting for him

I am so sorry to hear this, you have had so much bother over this.
However, I cant see how this can be legal???? Like you said, surely its Ales's right to have his educational environment kept secure?

I really hope you get some answers today xx

I have finally had a call back from a lovely man who does not know 100% so has given the number for the lady who has final say on admissions and of course I cant get hold of her YET.

Anyway he has only in 20 years ever heard of 1 child leaving the learning unit and refused back at his school but that was not the childs local school and it was full adn that the only reason.

He has never known a parent to have to re-apply for a place to have a child put back SO THAT MUST MEAN THE CHILDS SPACE IS KEPT OPEN!

It is of great importance that not only the child go back to the same school but SAME CLASS to where all their friends are.

This new Head at Pontyclun needs [smilie=2guns.gif] , he just thinks no the place is not kept but cant have taken 5 mins to call the admissions people and check, Alex is leaving because he HAS to as mainstrean no able to teach him, he might only be away for a year no one knows but I need to know that when the time comes there is nothing stoppign him going straight back into where he came out.

The man I spoke to is also on the panel for the learning school and helps children settle back into their old schools so 100% knows that you dont apply for a new place and that the Head must just not know

On a happy note, I also called the new school and spoke to Alex`s new teacher who we met on Tuesday. She asked him what he wants from santa and he said a blue pram and a pink baby doll, she was so taken with him and one of the little girls shouted out loud, oh my he is beautiful

She told me today that she went straight round to her sister in laws house and asked her to donate her daughters old M&P dolls pushchair to the school as a new boy starting after christmas loves playing them and the school has not got one :D , he is going to be over the moon when he starts and see it there, he wont want to go back to his old school

Awwww how lovely of her to go to such effort! Alex will be chuffed to bits, bless him! :D

As to the other matter, it souns like the Head is trying to enforce his self-importance a little, and doesn't know what he's doing :!: Pleb! The guy you spoke to on the phone sounds very clued up to it all, having worked there for so many years, so hopefully, Alex's place is secure or the Head will get a good kicking!!! Sel he sure is a Pleb

I dont think this other lady will call be back today so I iwll be callign her at 9am tomorrow  but I am 99% sure the Head just does not have a scooby about what he is talking about and I am going to tell Alex`s teacher that after school and tell what I have been told so far.

Alex`s new teacher is lovely and told me to call her back at 2pm if I never heard from anyone so she could chase things up for me :)

Alex's new teacher sounds really sweet. No doubt Alex will take to her quite quickly. :D

Hope you hear from the admissions woman soon, if not, just go round and kick her! :D

I can't understand the logic of them not keeping his place open anyway :?: I know I'm in France and it probably doesn't work the same way but our head goes out of his way to recruit as many kids as possible, because the government pays him funds on a per head basis so more kids = more resources for the school. Finances aside, we have a few kids with behavioural problems who go to a special school for a few months then come back - their place is always kept open because, as you say, it's important for them to come back to the group of friends and teachers they already know.

The new teacher sounds lovely though so that's one thing. Oooh he'll have a gaggle of girlfriends before you know it !!

Good luck, keep fighting, you'll get there in the end
