Hi everyone,

I am 23 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and we are expecting a girl :)

I was just wondering when other mums and mums too be started preparing and buying things for the baby?...things such as clothes, pushchair, nursery furniture etc?

I have started to buy a few clothes, sleepsuits and vests, but im not sure if its too soon to be buying pushchairs and furniture etc...but on the other hand i do like to be really organised.

Congratulations on your pregnancy :D

I think the first time we bought anything for Jack was when I was about 20 weeks pregnant and we went to The Baby Show in London and bought a few bits like a play mat, a Widgey cushion (which still gets used every day), a birthing ball and DVD which I only used to sit on in labour, a breast pump and things. After that I just collected every now and then. I had a long list lol.
My Mum bought us our pram and carseat, my Dad the cot and mattress, and my future in-laws his moses basket and stand but those were all when I was around 6-7 months pregnant I think.

Clothes I never really bought much of as when I left work I got quite a lot and more than enough like vests, baby grows and bibs.

Our nursery furniture was my old but nice white chest of drawers, waredrobe and side table from when I lived at home and the white matches Jack's cot so that saved us a lot.

If you like to be organised like me then just get it all when you want! It'll fly by mostly anyway, well apart from the last few weeks for me after leaving work

Also, personally I would not recommend spending loads on a travel system. Our simple but fine Graco travel system was only £130 for the whole thing including car seat. I know someone who's just spent £800 on a whole iCandy travel system which seems silly to me when the first car seat is only used for up to a year and then you might get a stroller as well.
We've just bought Jack's new car seat now as he's almost outgrown the first one and that did cost a bit but that will last him up til he's 3.5 ish

I think I first bought something around the 10 week mark as it was a bargain moses basket.
We have slowly bought other stuff and at 25 weeks I think the only thing baby would need if they came now would be a cot.

Im hoping to pick up some bargains in the january sales. All i have bought is a few clothes, so i think i have a lot of shopping to do! I have a feeling my friends and family might buy me baby things as my Christmas presents...which im not sure is very fair on me! lol

I think i will start seriously looking at travel systems now, and trying to workout which one to get....there are so many to choose from its all very confusing.

Congratulations on your pregnancy :D

I started buying vests and sleepsuits after my 12 week scan, then after my 20 week when we found out I was having a boy we started buying little suits and things in blue. Think I was about 6 months when we bought the pram and about 8 months when I bought Moses basket and furniture and stuff :D I was organised too, hate leaving things until the last minute lol!

I'd wait to the Jan sales too.
My mum and sis bought the bump a present for Christmas but not me. I thought it quite cute. We didn't know the sex of our first, but we were all putting stuff away from the sales. With the twins, I knew it was girls, and again every sale we all put stuff away for the girls. Resulting in a massive pile of clothes when they were born
As for bigger equipemnt - check out ebay etc. I spent a fortune buying everything brand new for Ella and most of it was hardly used (bouncy chair etc). This time (obviously had all Ella's stuff but needed an extra one of everything) and bought it all second hand. It is like new and a quarter of the price [smilie=clap.gif] [smilie=clap.gif]
For your pram -some places need about 8 - 10 weeks delivery. A pram is a very personal thing. Each person has a set list of necessary requirements. I would suggest going to a local pram shop or two, and trying out all the different prams. Have a list of necessary requirements before you go - height adjustable handle, light weight, big wheels, air tyre / plastic, high set pram rather than one which is quite low, number of wheels, baby lying flat - facing you our outwards. Once you have your list say you requirements to the staff and get them to show prams that fit all your needs. Then try them out to find the one you are happiest with.
xx
