I have kept this to myself up until now. Jack (as you may know) was a very big baby, and at his birth, his shoulders got stuck. I managed to push him out myself. Afterwards, they said I did not need stitches and would heal better on my own. I thought they know best. A couple of weeks after his birth, I checked myself for the first time, and was shocked! I also asked a midwife to check me, and she said I should not have been left like that.
Anyway, since then, I have been back and forth to the hospital, with another appointment this morning, and I have been offered a vaginal reconstruction.
After I got home, the phone rang, and they said they have a cancellation on 22nd October. I will be off work for 2 months, they said, and can not lift anything heavy for 2 months either.
My problem is what do I do with the children - Jack in particular? My husband can probably take off work for a week, but what about after that? My mil can do the school runs, which sorts that out, but day to day care of my home and family?
I know this is a problem for us to deal with, has anyone else been through anything like this?

Sorry to hear you're having to go through this hun. It sounds as if it should have been sorted out straight after the birth!

I haven't been through this but I did have an umbilical hernia (just above my belly button) after having Zac. I had an op to repair it in June last year when Zac was 6 months old. I was also told not to do any heavy lifting etc for a month or so as the hernia could pop back out if I did. I did have help with the school run from Ste for the first week or so but then I just got on with it myself. I know I probably shouldn't have but I had no choice. Obviously I tried not to pick Zac up as much as I used to but I was still doing the school run with a heavy double pushchair at least once a day (Ste is usually back for the on later in the day). I did actually speak to the consultant about it as I was worried but he said as long as you are sensible & don't go lifting wardrobes etc then lifting the kids should be fine. I would have a talk with your consultant if you can & see what they say. I think most people would be in the same position as I imagine this is something that would only happen after having children.

Good luck with your op hun. I hope it all goes well xxx

Sorry to hear your having such a bad time Audrey. Lewis got stuck too, I still managed to push him out on my own but needed lots of stitches afterwards. It was painful and I was in pain for about 2 weeks. It sounds to me like its something that really needs doing and you should get it done. Im assuming you would be kept in hospital for a few days? Or do you not know yet?

Its only natural to feel nervous, hope you can start getting some sleep soon though.
Has your doctor says how long healing will be?

Good luck for the op audrey - I am sure it will be fine - obviously sore for a while but at least your bits will look normal again!
The children will understand - they can help with jack too!
xx
