Hi

okay so first things first, I'm not a parent, I got told to join here by someone called victoria Paine via facebook and the parley website. She said she would post my story on the website and if I wanted to I could post it here, so here I am! Anyway, about 6 months ago I started haing these really bad headaches and feeling. At first my mum just thought it was flu and so gave me some medicine. After a few weeks though I gradually got worse and I started having fits and collapsing randomly. My mum took me to the doctors but they didn't know what was wrong with me. I got worse and then it got to the stage when I couldn't really understand people and my balance went weird. That made the doctors think I was going deaf, which I did seem to be. But then things got really worse (by this point I kindof wondered how much worse it could get!) and u lost the feeling down my left side. This made the doctor decide to do MRI and CT scans which revealed 2 small tumors. 1 on my cerebellum and the other on my temporal lobe. After a few more tests me and my mum found out they were cancerous and I needed chemotherapy and probably radiotherapy as well.

I am just about to start my first cycle of chemo and I'm kindof nervous! I hate not being able to play footie with my mates, but when I am better David beckham had better watch out!!!

Anyway this probably won't be of much interest to anyone but I've posted it anyway and by the time you have reached this you'll have probably read it all anyway...unless...you skipped to the end!!! (which I hope you didn't coz then there was no point me writing this and if you skip to the end in everything you do in life you ruin all the surprises!!!)

Anyway I'm gonna stop rambling on and sign out.
OUT.

Hi Tom,

Good on you for telling your story. You'll be surprised how many people would be very interested in it and to know how your treatment goes.

As for skipping to the end, that would only happen if people were reading something that wasn't interesting. I bet you everyone who reads it will read it right through.

I wish you all the best for your treatment. I'm sure there will be some not-so-nice moments ahead, but it'll all be worth it and you'll be fit and well ready to take over from David Beckham in next to no time. :bball:

Best Wishes,

Nigel.

I also read your whole post. :D

It must have been very hard for you and your family when you found out what was causing all those nasty headaches, fits etc, but at the same time now they know the cause they can deal with the problem.

From your post you seem a very brave young man, just wondering how old you are? I bet your mum is very proud of you for coping this way.

Good luck with your treatment and please let us know from time to time how you are getting on.

Hey
just a quick update on progress. I had my central line put in for chemo and started that yesterday. To be honest, it making me feel pretty rubbish already :-( on the plus side, lots of my friends have their first science modules that we were meant to be doing early and I have escaped those!

Thanks for all the support, it's really helpful especially as sometimes I can't talk to my own mum about stuff coz it makes her too upset.

Also thanks to those of you who didn't skip to the end... You made my day! :-P

Hey TOm, i left you a message asking how you are on FB but will put it on here instead. Glad you are keeping your sense of humour, it is so important well done you :) Rubbish that its making you feel so bad but think of the good it is doing aye? How long does each chemo session take and how many do you have to have?

Try not to shut your mum out too much as she probably needs to talk as much as you do and needs to know how you are feeling and will be upset regardless! You should ask her to join on here and chat to us parents who have been through similar experiences if she feels it will help?

Science was never my subject either so its great news and a silver lining that you are missing the modules lol!

Take good care of yourself

You had secret talks with the docs so you could avoid your science module didn't you?

Seriously hope it all goes well. My mum had chemo and radiotherapy for breast cancer 5 years ago. I'll be totally honest with you, chemo made her feel like crap, but she got through it and she even managed to work throughout her radiotherapy.

Good luck and keep us posted x
