Just wondered if anyone can offer some advice on what is normal poo for a 6 month old?

Oscar is now eating home-made mashed up solids and nibbles on various finger foods during the day. He is on Aptamil follow-on milk and has around 3-4 bottles at 180-210ml. He has on average 1-2 poos a day and I've started to give him some water with his food now too as his poo has become incredibly solid!

Yesturday for example, he had pooed whilst feeding in his high chair, so I went to change him. Whilst changing him, he pooed some more, only this time he pooed solid logs (sorry if tmi), not too dissimilar from an adult poo and there was LOTS of it! He has had two bowel movements since and although they obviously aren't causing him any pain and he doesn't seem to have any problems passing them, I just wondered if solid poo for a six month old is normal.

Any advice appreciated.

i would speak to your H.V hunni

you are doing the right thing by giving him a bit of water with his food
formula is known for making babys poo hard and sometimes baby being constipated

again though hun just speak to your H.V and maybe save a sample for her/him (must be p.c) to have a look at.

That's solids for you!!

You eat solids and your poo is 'solid' so it's the same for babies. You'll find it also depends on what solids he eats too. Be prepared for a variety of colour in his nappies

Oli has 'adult' poo's now too!! He really strains sometimes to get them out!! He is really not interested in water at all but i keep trying!!

The leader at the playgroup said to try sips of water between spoonfuls of food so i'm gonna try that!

matthew was the same when he was 7 months hated water but now he loves drinking it keep trying x

What you said makes perfect sense. I wasn't really worried as he wasn't in any pain. I just thought it was odd that he did grown-up poos! My partner was thinking of giving him a newspaper to read to help things a long a bit!

Oscar wouldn't take water either, so I added tiny amounts to his food, especially if it was something starchy like potato so he at least gets some to help him have looser bowel movements. I also gave him spoonfuls of water, so he thought it was food and would take it better. Eventually, after doing this for a day or two, he got used to the taste and now takes it from his cup.

However, you decide to do it, giving him water at meal times is a good idea as he's more likely to take it then.

This is funny cuz the same happen to me the other day, charlie was in his highchair and had a poo and i took his nappy off and he was still going and it was soild and he was pushing so hard i was worried but if yours had the same then maybe its normal
