Not too sure if any mums out there are aware of this - but you can donate your breastmilk to the Wirral Mothers' Milk Bank and you could be giving a premature baby the best start in life.

It's really easy, especially if you're already expressing. The frozen milk is collected from your house (or wherever you store it), and taken to the hospital to be pasturised. It's then given out to local hospitals.

If you're interested contact Annie Atkinson:
Phone: 0151 334 4000 Ext 5000
Fax: 0151 604 7138
Email: milkbank@whnt.nhs.uk

Annie is lovely and will also support you with any breastfeeding issues you may have when you become a donor. I got thrush and she was a real help.

Type 'Wirral Mother's' into Facebook and join the group - help spread the word [smilie=clap.gif]

I contacted this woman & she gave me a different no & neither collect milk from my area... So I'm going to pay for it to be delivered myself. They said they cant afford to collect from my area.

You're amazing for doing that. They need all the support they can get. It's shocking how little funding they get...

I've just contacted the Mothers Milk Bank at the Countess of Chester Hospital (I hadent seen this or I would probably have contacted arrow park as I grew up on the wirral) - I now live in Bury (Lancs) so its about an hour away but the nearest to me. They asked me a few questions and I have to send them some blood so they can complete my screaning remotely to save me having to go into the hospital but they have said that as long as everything is clear (which it should be) even though I am out of the area they will still collect from me every few months. It means that I need quite a bit of space in the freezer but we had the kitchen done recently so I'm going to set the old one up in the garage & use that.

Thanks hunni, I have some friends who had a prem baby who was in special care for over 4 months and she said how much the milk bank helped her so thats what made me think of it. I have to say not looking forward to the blood tests tomorrow morning - I have such rubish vains that the nurses/drs always struggle to get blood and I normally end up looking like a junkie by the end of it!! But it will def be worth it if I can then help other little babies :D
