for the last few days I have been getting pains in my breasts, Troy has been feeding a little more than normal and even eats more (growth spurt im thinking) but the pains are there when im empty, full and between feeds and im hoping I dont have to see the docs in case im told I have to stop feeding Troy and my breastfeeding cafe isnt running over easter :( any ideas are all welcome!!!
I am happy to keep going (with cabbage leaves and cool pouches) unless the pains get worse but im worried about mastitis now as its been longer than 48 hours....

Does it hurt more when he's feeding? Can you see any blockage and is it both breasts?

I had a blocked duct back in feb. I ran a mild temp and had pain in the one breast. I spent time in a hot bath (and hot shower) immersing the nipple (not an easy feat at my size!) and hand expressing as well as getting Dominic to feed on that breast everytime despite the pain. It took from the friday to the monday to resolve but since it was over the weekend (like yours) I didn't have much choice til the monday anyway! I also sat an exam on the saturday!

Not easy but I'm a stubborn old goat and refuse to give up breastfeeding for anyone!

If your pain is in both breasts then its unlikely to be mastitus..... What kind of pain is it? Is it like a stabbing pain? It could be thrush if so... Have you been on any antibiotics lately? Other signs are possible white patch in babies mouth (but not always)... If you go onto the Breast Feeding Network website there is an excellent info sheet that you can print out..(and if you do think you have thrush there is a sheet to take to the Dr's to get the correct prescription too). The best thing to do with the majority of breast pain is to keep feeding through it so dont let anyone tell you that you have to stop x

Mastitus comes with a red patch on the breast which is really hot and uncomfortable, full blown mastitus comes with flu like symptoms that come really quickly and make you feel dreadful - you need to feed, feed, feed from the affected side to drain to clear it (and get anti b's if you are no better within a few hours). hth xx

how random.....just as it came, it has gone, no wierd happenings and just myself using the cooling gel pads and a few cabbage leaves and the pains have gone just as fast as they appeared. Thanks for your support guys and im racking my brains to think what I might have dont to bring the pain on or even help it to go but something must have gone right cos now im pain free!!!!

oh the joys [smilie=clap.gif]
