Not so much 'Green Parenting' as 'Green Lifestyle' - How does your local council deal with the disposal of big cardboard boxes?

You may find this as silly as I do, but in our area, cardboard boxes need to be put into PLASTIC BAGS before they are collected! Eh? Imagine the fun I had after receiving a new office chair the other day! The box was big enough for a small family to live in while they wait for 'Le Shuttle' in Sangatte, Calais.

Not only that, but any plastic tape wrapped around them needs to be removed, any metal staples used must be taken out etc. Now come on! What is the point in this? Would it not be better to put the plastic bags into cardboard boxes? [smilie=rolleyes.gif]

That sounds a bit mental. We break it all up as much as poss and stick in the blue recycling bin. Wee secret - we actually have 2 blue bins. We had been advised that as we bought our green bin we should take it with us when we moved. So we took green, blue and red bins with us. The council had already donated a nice new blue bin - but have never offered a red or green one. So glad we took them with us  So we often fill the 2 blue bins and put them both out, and have had no bother getting them collected hehehehehe
xx

That sounds rather crazy :?

Here we have a black bin which is for general household waste and all unrecyclable things. We have a blue bin with a box attached for papers, magazines etc. We put cardboard, glass, plastic, aerosols in there.
We also have a green bin for garden waste like grass and hedge trimmings and stuff.

Hoping we dont get anymore flippin bins I have no idea where we would stash anymore lol

We have 1 rubbish bin! But to be emptied it has to be in the exact same spot every week otherwise they pretend they don't see it!

We also have a guy who rakes through the rubbish bins on a Tuesday night and takes whatever he wants, iv watched him a few times from my window raking through the British red cross shops bins, he took home a blow up lion and a belt strapped round his head one night, he comes basically every tuesday always after midnight when he thinks no one is watching x x x

We just rip them up & put them in the recycling bin! Putting them in plastic bags seems to defeat the object of recycling to me :?

we have a green bin for all cardboard and plastic, when that is full we can fill a box with extra recyclable material and leave that with the bin

Not allowed any bags at all - see through or not!

Blue bin for paper, card & plastic, red for glass, green for everything else.
If it's dry we can leave any excess stuff by the bins for collection. Weird thing is my mum in East Kilbride can't do that she has to have everything in a bid to be collected, but we are under the same council! Obviously Strathaven bin men are more helpful
We also have a 'recycling centre' in Strathaven where they take everything and anything.
