I made some banana muffins this morning from the Sainsburys website & they didnt rise.... I made a cake the other day & it didnt rise... Do you see a theme here?!
I sieve the self raising flour - what am I doing wrong? Help please!

Yep use baking powder too - maybe I need to work on my "folding" action!

Pm me the libk to banana muffin reipe and ile have a go,mayb they not meant to rise?banana is qiite heavy.. anyway i never sieve mine everything rises ok....

You need to try & get as much air in them as possible, so sieve the flour from a good height & just fold the ingredients together, don't work it too much or it won't rise & will be really heavy & dense.... I also think some recipes are just rubbish. I've had my share of disasters in the baking department I tend to try a few different recipes for each type of cake & when I find 1 that works I stick to it

I usualy use plain flour, and add baking soda. I always add lemon juice on top of the baking soda, once it all frizzles and goes bubbly, then I add it to the mixture, and it works better for me than just baking powder.

How annoying is that Rimmel ad on the side panel, keeps opening and making noise, argghhh.

I cant find the recipe on line at all anymore! Maybe I dreamt it up & that's why it didnt work! I copied it & threw it away yesterday by mistake so I cant forward the link - sorry!

I made some ginger biscuits today & they rose & grew sooo much that they all turned into one giant biscuit! I like the idea of trying the same cake over & over with different recipes until it works! I think this baking malarky could leave me looking like the side of a house though!!!

shame - I like the idea of banana muffins might have to google a recipe now

I cant help you other than folding the mixture instead of mixing like lou said - I just eat whatever comes out the oven - never too bothered if they rise or not to be honest
