Zayd's been taking a dummy since he was 5 days old. I did notice however when we were still at the hospital on the first night he was born, he was sucking his thumb but i took it out as soon as i saw him doing it. I was so against dummy and thumb sucking so i tried without for first few days..but little did i know it would be impossible with this one to get him to settle. But last week-end he's started to take his thumb more, he's even pushing the dummy out with his hand to make way for the thumb. I am very confused as i was against both. There is so many articles that says dummy is better than the thumb and then there's others to say why we should let them have their thumb. I'd really like to know your views plz.

Maddie was sucking her thumb on her first scan pic so there was no hope for her ever! I've always preferred thumb and never had any problem getting them to stop.

Monique is the same she even has her thumb in her mouth on scan pics & like u I was against dummys but have found since she's had a dummy at a wk old she doesnt suck her thumb & only uses dummy when tired or ill. & as the dentist said you can throw a dummy away but you cant cut the thumb off & i know a 25yr old who still sucks her thumb out of habit. hth

Gosh, there's a surprise. 5:1 so far, in favour of the thumb. Still have doubts on thumbs though. Mrc C, when did yours stop using the thumb?
Vicky, has any of yours used a dummy b4 and when did they stop?
Thank you Yummy mummy, and Annie.
Claire, this is why i gave him a dummy too to stop the thumb but it seems that he's found his thumb again.

Kian has been a thumb sucker since day 1. He still sucks his thumb now but only if he's really tired. He can go to sleep with or without it, all depending how tired he is.

Lucas has never had anything & Zac hasn't so far!
