For the last day I've been getting really sharp like stabbing pains around my back and across the top of my bump. They only last about 2-3 mins but are really sore and I feel all tight when they happen.

As this is my first baby, I'm not sure if they are contractions or just stronger braxton hicks. I have phoned the hospital to get advice, but they have just said for me to have a bath and take paracetamol. I don't know whether I should go in in or not to get checked over, as I feel I would just be sent home again.

I'm not due for another 3 weeks and I don't really want to give birth until my boyfriend is over here from Italy - he will be here on Friday, so I hope I can hold out until after then.

Any advice on what I should do? Baby has yet to engage but is lying low down, so could be engaged at the end of the week.

I would say braxton hicks if they aren't regular. They can be as painful as actual contractions at times!

Went into hospital at 4am, as I was really sore and unable to sleep.

I was examined when I arrived and baby is facing head down, ready to engage and I have started to mildy contract.

One good thing is that Giovanni is here! I tried to call him to let him know what was happening (he knew I was in pain), but he was on the plane coming across. He came straight to the hospital as soon as he left the airport.

I am now back at home, completely resting as they feel I could go into labour at the end of the week.
