I am currently feeding my 4 month old little boy on SMA Gold but am finding that there is a lot of powdery residue at the end of a bottle which makes him gag. I didn't have this with the eldest 2 and am wondering if anyone else has found this with SMA? I am also thinking of changing to C&G but don't know if this will make much difference of how easy it will be. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Amanda

Hi Amanda
Welcome to the site :D

I used SMA gold for a bit on my Son, but it didnt agree and the smell made me gag lol, so I switched to Cow and Gate comfort 1, which changes the gut contents (they have green runny poo to start, but perfectly normal), and its a thicker milk and is gentler on the tummy. It worked for us, worth giving it a try. :D

No worries, it helped my little one sleep better too, as its thicker and tends to take longer to digest, hence more sleep

Hi Amanda,

I BF my LO up until he was 6 months old, but used to give him a bottle of SMA Gold at bedtime to help him stay fuller for longer. However, when I tried to give him more than one bottle when weaning him, he didn't get on with it at all and had all sorts of problems. I switched to Aptamil, and he's been a happy little man ever since.

I have never used Cow & Gate, so can't help you there, but according to my HV's, Aptamil is much gentler on babies' stomachs.
Hope that helps.

Sorry not much use.

Emily is now 1 week and 6 days old and has been on SMA Gold since day 1. She seems to guzzle it down nicely. The only thing I do not like with it is that if the plastic spoon get wet it can make the powder in the tin go a little lumpy so need to make sure its dry before putting it back in.

The SMA Gold toddler 1 is buy 1 get free at Tesco at the moment for anyone interested but not the gold 1 I use. Boo hoo :(

Adam used SMA gold but I didnt like it..have you ever tried it?? It is foul, I used Aptamil for Chloe and Charlotte[Hannah was on prescription milk] and that tasted a little creamier and never had any problems with them drinking it.

Both mine used SMA and had no problems with it, but is best to follow your lo's lead. I've heard lots of good things about Aptimal so might be worth a try!
