We stopped Lacey's dummy a couple of months before she turned 2, we weaned down and stopped the day use and then just went cold turkey at night, she cried for the first 2 or 3 nights but then never asked for it again, I was really surprised. Hope you find something that works for you xx

I wish - we have taken Ella's (3 years in Feb :( ) away during the day 3 times now, and still we find her with it during the day and will not cope without it at night. argh! The magpies, Santa's elves and of course the Easter bunny have taken her daytime one away, but she will not let them go. Biggest problem we have is she sees her little sisters with one ( they are only just turned 1), but she more often than not steals theirs. Have decided leaving it with her till July - we go on holiday abroad for the first time, and as I am not a great flyer, and with the twins on each of our knees it will be hard enough, so hopefully the dummy will help her wee ears. But as soon as we return, the dummy will just disappear - cold turkey and hopefully she will settle.
Good luck
xxx

Thanks for replies, I'm thinking cold turkey is probably the way to go...Just hate him screaming, sounds so bad cos he shouts out "MumMum!" Makes me wanna cry...lol. We really wanted to get rid because he doesn't speak much at all, and we've noticed a big change during the day, so that's good.

Aww Fiffes, must be hard with the little 'uns having dummies too, I'd definately wait til after the holiday too. We flew to America last year and a dummy was a god-send! Good luck hun x x

It's hard and it made me very emotional, Lacey would lie in her bed and scream at me I need my doddy, I need my doddy now. She was that loud I had to go to my next door neighbour the next day and let him know why she was crying lol, didn't want him thinking we were leaving her screaming. Once you get past that stage it's so worth it xxx

Three of mine were dummy lovers, they stopped using them during the day at various ages, but they were all 4 when the night time ones went. I didn't see a problem with night time use only and they all gave them up quite happily as they were old enough to understand.

Have you thought about doing something like the 'dummy fairy'? I've heard about it before. I think you say to your child that they can give their dummy/dummies to a fairy who will pass them on to little babies who need them and she will bring a present in return. You put them in a nice bag before bed and leave them somewhere in their room or hanging on their door or something and then you take it away when they're asleep and leave them a nice big toy! I don't know how easliy this would work as I've not tried it myself and they prob would cry for it again but you could remind them that it's gone to the little babies.
Luckily we managed to take the dummy from our little boy when he was about 7/8 months old - he only used to have it for naps and nighttime but around this time he had a cold and wouldn't take thr dummy when he was put down so after a few days of that we decided just to take it away then as we were having to help him settle anyway, then when he was better got him to learn to settle himself again without giving the dummy back.
Good luck x

We were lucky as Lewis never took to a dummy. Not so good when he was a baby and looking for comfort but better now that he's older and doesn't have one.
Can't really offer any advice but maybes cold turkey is the way to go. I imagine it will be just as hard for you too, but he will soon get used to it.
When me and my sister were babies we got rid of our dummies at a special times like Christmas, we swapped them for presents or at Easter we swapped them for eggs. I always say sometimes bribery works wonder lol!

my son is 2 months and doesnt like dummys unless he has a really bad belly ache then he will take it, if i put it in his mouth then he just pulls a funny face as if to say err whats that and spits it out. Maybe give him a toy at bedtimes instead to replace the dummy something he really likes that he doesnt have access to during the daytime - just a thought. My eldest just didnt want his dummy anymore when he turned 1.
